Finally!!!! A large box of pencils that are WAX BASED! I asked the vendor directly, because no one could tell me if these pencils are wax or oil based. They were very prompt in answering me. These pencils are a little bit harder than prismas. They are easy to blend and layer. So for about half the cost of Prismacolor, you can have a great day to day box of pencils that are much less prone to breakage. I know that I will worry much less about this set of pencils than the more expensive brands. The actual pallet of colors is wonderful. There are more pastel colors and brown shades than the afore mentioned Prismacolor pencils. One of the very unique things regarding these pencils is that they are Pantone colors. For any who dont know about Pantone colors, I will attempt to explain. Pantone is actually the official language of color. If you were asking someone to manufacture, say a shirt, for your company to sell; you could tell them that you wanted the shirts to be purple. That's almost like asking someone how many grains of rice are in a cup. There are hundreds of shades of purple. So, to solve this, we have Pantone colors. The vast majority of Pantone colors are not named, they are numbered. Now you can tell the company to make all the shirts in Pantone color #2593. Now there is absolutely no doubt regarding the color that you are referring to. I believe that in the entire box of 150 pencils, only four or five actually are named. The rest are numbered. This is the unique quality of these pencils. Because these pencils are based on the Pantone system, they are numbered, not named. With a little time, you should have no problem identifying each color by a number, instead of a name. For those of you having difficulty with sharpening pencils from some of the softer brands, the Master brand of pencils are your solution. You have a fantastic large pallet of colors that are less prone to breakage. They seem to be highly pigmented, and respond wonderfully. Have a great time with these pencils. Remember, they are slightly harder than Prismas, but other than that, respond wonderfully. These pencils would make an awesome gift for both anyone just beginning to use colored pencils or a professional artist. Have a most blessed day and color on! December 11, 2019 Update: because these are "budget friendly " pencils, I get the feeling that many people dont believe that these are actually an artist grade of pencils. So I am adding a few pictures that I have done with them. I hope this helps you to try these pencils. As you can tell, the more I used these pencils, the better my pictures got. Have a blessed day! UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2022 I just needed to replace my pencils with a new box. There is a huge difference from my original box. I'm actually very disappointed! The original pencils had Pantene numbers on each pencil. The Pantone numbers no longer exist on these pencils. The pencils have no color names but just are numbered from 101 - 250. This is really sad to me. If any of you really need those Pantone numbers for your work.......they no longer exist. When I ordered these pencils there were no ratings and I took a chance on this 150pc colored pencil set. I must say I am thrilled with them. I swatched each one yesterday and they are highly pigmented, creamy and a dream to work with. I find that a blender pencil works extremely well. I'm not bothered by the lack of names as color is everything. The numbers on the pencils correlate to the Pantone color system, but again, I'm more concerned with actual color than a name. The pencils themselves are solid smooth surface and feel heavier than other pencils and for good reason: the lead cores are noticeably larger than any other pencil I have. That means more output per pencil. I found the color range to be an excellent mix of hues, leaning more towards blues, pinks and greens, yet there is plenty of earthy colors. There are no metallic colors. No breakage occurred in transit. The tin is well made of thicker metal and opens easily. The trays are a little flimsy and I will brace them with thin wood slats glued underneath. Each pencil has its own cradle and not tightly wedged in, making it easier to get the pencil out for use. I did not notice a disagreeable odor - just smells like colored pencils. I have not sharpened any yet, so cannot speak to that. In all, I highly recommend this set, especially for the price. You are getting a high quality product for an excellent price and will not be disappointed. I may have to get another set before they're gone. ... show more

This set of 150 Master Colored Pencils is a great buy. Plenty of colors and they perform well for the price point. I like the storage tin they come in too. It features an underwater coral reef scene. The pencils themselves sharpen easily and don't crumble when using a lot of pressure. I am still trying different techniques but so far, so good. Ok. Yes, these pencils smell when you first open them, but once they are open for a bit it dissipates. These pencils are really good. I learned (as all pencils have a learning curve), that if you are light handed with these they will be your friend. They blend well as well as layer. But, you have to work LIGHT HANDED! They are so pretty once you get the hang of them. WHAT A BARGAIN! $37 for 150 pencils and they are good! Edit: I have had these pencils for a bit now and have run them through their paces. I have to say that these are HANDS DOWN the smoothest, most transitional pencils I have ever used! No stop/start marks, so I haven't had to use a blender pencil to smooth those out. They blend elegantly and take so much of the work out of it for you. I have never used a smoother pencil for transitions, and I use Caran dache luminance. For coloring, my search is over for good. I would say the same for drawing as well, if it weren't for the lightfast issue. I'm in love! ... show more

I am not a professional artist, I bought these to color in coloring books for some relaxation/quiet time etc. I paid $19.99 for the tin of 150 colors. Pros: Price was good, lots of colors, the tin is nice Cons: The trays are super flimsy and hard to grab There are colors that its hard to see the difference between them I noticed that the green/blues don’t exactly seem to match the color on the end of the pencils The lead is not super soft All in all I’ve been having fun coloring with them in my coloring books. ... show more
