  • Initial Maslow impression
So after doing tons of research (youtubing) and trolling the developer websites I chose to go with this CNC. Mainly because of the philosophy of the developers "make affordable and accessable CNC to everyone" the price of 500 bucks was the main selling point, and if you can cut and screw wood together you can build this. The instructions for updating drives and software were easy to follow.(easier than setting up a printer). It's actually been an enjoyable experience, I feel like I found a Pokemon and it's got all this potential. However I am out of plywood at the moment and due to COVID-19 I am limiting trips to the hardware store. I will update this post in a few weeks after spending more time with gidget(maslow), yeah I named it, it's what happens when you're stuck inside, you name stuff and ramble on and on, on Amazon reviews. ... show more

  • This is the next generation of woodworking
I've been following the Maslow CNC project since it was launched on Kickstarter initially purchased at kit through that campaign. I now needed another kit to bring to my summer home. Highly recommend this product for people who want to learn CNC or make their own furniture, signs or anything large you need to cut accurately. Maker Made has enhanced the Maslow CNC kits with new technology over the existing Maslow CNC Kickstarter campaign. There is a great community for questions and help from novices to advanced makers alike. ... show more

  • It is important to understand what this machine can and cannot do before you buy.
So let me start of by acknowledging that I purchased my Maslow directly from the manufacture and not Amazon. The following is intended to help you decide if this machine is right for you. Please be advised, if you are looking for very high accuracy, then this machine is most likely not for you. Likewise, if you are an absolute wood working beginner, this machine is not for you (you have to build the fame yourself). Finally, if you are looking for a plug and play CNC routing solution this machine is absolutely not for you (remember this is a kit). Having said all that, this machine is capable of cutting some fantastic projects, but in terms of overall accuracy, the best I could obtain in a 2.5mm diagonal variance from corner to corner on a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood. Depending upon what project you are trying to cut, this might not be a big deal, but for the work I do it is unacceptable. To this end, I am going to sell mine simply because it is taking up space in the shop. Please understand this is not a bad machine, but if you are an experienced CNC user who needs high accuracy, then you will need to either build your own from scratch (like I did) or spend a lot more money or a different machine. ... show more

  • Buying a Maslow is a start you need a lot more stuff and lots of time.
I purchased my Maslow direct but thought my feedback may help. I love the simplicity of the whole thing, easy to build, but difficult to get it running. I see reviews of people saying how easy it was and great. Mine sat for a long time as support is through forums. Just be aware it's not plug n play. You need to purchase $200 - $300 worth of extra materials before you get it working. I would say the single biggest issue was crawling through many web sites and forums to get all the firmware and software needed. Its free but not very organized, the docs say do step 2 then the hunt to figure out how to do that and where to get it. Update: I started back from scratch and was able to get my Maslow calibrated. Months of troubleshooting off and on as I had time, but it does appear to be working. Now to find software that can create GRBL files Maslow can use. Looking back this could be greatly simplified with a simple flow chart and links on a single page. But if you are looking for low-cost CNC well this, is it just be patient. ... show more

  • Great learning experience. Fun and productive.
It's technology is quite precise but it's not super accurate. What I mean is that it does a fine job of making multiple passes precisely for good cuts. But when you measure what you've cut you'll find that the farther from the center of the work area you are the less accurate it becomes. At the center it's pretty accurate but at the cutting extremities I'm a couple of mm off. Also you can't cut all the way out to the theoretical 4x8 extremity because of the geometry of the thing. I would say the effective cutting area is about 70x36 if you have a 4x8 setup. You can go bigger with a longer chain. And it's for cutting, not carving. ... show more
