This items is poorly rated and has been returned for the following reason. The attempt at strain relief where the power cord enters the heating unit has left about 5/16" of the power cord exposed. This exposed section will have to absorb all of the strain generated by any movement of the cord. This is not acceptable since the heater would be moved on a daily basis. My outside kittens love this! I bought them an overpriced pet house for outside that they of course never used. Once I put this pad (which fit perfectly) in the bottom of the house, they have slept there every night since. I love that it doesn't get too hot to worry about it becoming a hazard with other blankets and things. It's just warm enough for the babies to know it's warm and it uses their body heat as well to keep them cozy during our "cold" Florida "winter" nights. ;-) The cord is also covered in a plastic type material so no worries about them chewing on it and getting hurt. ... show more

Ever since we got the heating pad this has become our cat's spot. She sleeps there, she hangs out there, and upon occasion she gets up to go check on the rest of the world, always to return back to her spot. She's kind enough to let us humans poke our toes under it from time to time too, very cozy! Update 1.5 years later: it looks like the heating pad is dying after a year and half of continuous use. I find it often cold. It will come back on sometimes but it seems like it's not regulating temperature properly. I'm buying this one again because it was so beloved, so we'll see how long a second one lasts. Update 1 year 1 month later: our second purchase of this heating pad is dying now after 1 year and 1 month. So two data points now suggest this has a lifespan of about a year. We're now buying our third, our cat demands us to do so. If this pad was a subscription product for $20 a year it would be worth it, so that's the way I view it now. ... show more

My cats love this. Living here in Wisconsin, with very cold winters, my cats will make use of this every day. Super FAST shipping, and a long, reinforced cord so no one will be chewing on it. Purchased for 2 feral cats that have adopted my front porch for their over night sleeping area. Winter was getting pretty cold and they weren't using the shelter but rather sleeping on my chairs. I wanted them to be warm so I purchased this. Doesn't feel like it gives off a lot of heat but if you sit on it, you can tell it works. After introducing one of the cats to it (she trusts us enough that we can pet her and I can pick her up), she uses it every night and has shown her buddy the new toy. My dogs fight over this so bad I ended up ordering more so each dog has their own heating pad plus the cat. When they are not laying on them they stay at room temperature and then heat up when there is weight on them. I was curious if having these on 24/7 would raise my electric bill, but it has now been 2 months and it has not raised at all. A couple of my dogs are old and it really has helped with aching old bones. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for something to keep your dogs warm or what not. This is an affordable addition to my collection of "must haves" for my foster kittens. As colder weather arrives it is essential to be able to provide extra warmth for the smallest of kittens and this does the trick nicely. The cord is protected from extra sharp kitten teeth and the fabric is cozy enough that I haven't added any additional blankets to the top but I could.
