  • Quality usually has a premium price.
Yes there are much cheaper body hammer kits on the market. I actually have a Harbor Freight set that I abuse and lone out. Needless to say I don't care what happens to them. I've been doing body work for more years than I care to count. Had a tool box stolen and all my body tools were in it. Comparing this Martin set to the cheap stuff is comparing a Yugo to a Corvette. The fit, finish, and balance are sooooo much better with these american made tools. The dollies are much heavier. The dollies also have several with truly flat surfaces, as does one hammer. It includes a shrinking hammer (beginners stay away from shrinking, I'm tired of fixing your mistakes). It does not come in any sort of case, just a cardboard box with precision cut foam to separate and protect the components. I prefer wood handles on most of my hammers, probably because that is the feel I'm used to, guess I'd have to try the equivalent fiberglass hammers before I can compare. Will these tools make you a master body man? Nope. But if you want to be serious about your trade, or hobby these tools greatly assist you reaching your potential. I believe in buying the best tools you can afford, provided they actually yield a benefit. I like buying american, but only when the product is superior which unfortunately is not always the case, but clearly is with anything from Martin Sprocket and Gear. ... show more

  • Great tools, but with some doubts.
This is a great set of tools, perfect for use with the techniques laid out in the "Keys to Metal Bumping" book. Nice package, nice finish, wonderful all around. What I don't know is whether or not they are significantly better than their cheap Chinese counterparts. But you for sure won't get ripped off if you go this route, they are fine tools with high quality steel, made in the USA. I plan on using them for all kinds of metal fab work, not just fenders. (but that too- thanks to the dude in POS mid 90's olds who rammed me and sped off......) ... show more

I'm a home mechanic that likes to work with nice tools when I can afford them. I know these won't make me a better body man but they are beautiful tools and a real pleasure to work with. Well balanced, high quality and I think good value for what you get.

  • Great fit and feel
Great fit and feel. Quality tools but the pick ends of the hammers needed a little sanding to even them off

  • nice tools
Perfectly made, packaged in foam that will last for storage. If you have the time, these will allow you to beat sheet metal back into shape. Worth the price, they will last a lifetime with proper care. Used with a torch, you can beat panels like it was 1940.
