My daughter was super excited about this, though I was both a little skeptical about it being a good craft, and a little leery about how messy and finicky it might be. It turned out to be a great little activity though, very straightforward, and resulting in entirely usable markers in the end. You get to mix whatever colors you want from the red,green,blue color bottles they give you. They provide a guide to show how many drops of each to make a whole spectrum of shades. The one slight criticism I have is that there's no official way to make lighter hues, since they only have full strength colors and no dilution approach provided or suggested. Which means that even though the box shows pink and cyan for instance, you can't make those with the provided materials. There's presumably some way to dilute the marker pigments, you'd just need the right stuff, whatever that is. The process is satisfying though, overall -- after you mix the color in the handy test tube+funnel they provide, you drop a long cylindrical sponge deal in there, and it sinks it while rapidly whicking up the color. Then you lift out the sponge thing with the included tweezers and stick it in the marker case, and snap down the lid onto it using the included lid cachunker device. Finally you can add a label. I'll say that the labels also didn't stick that great, if you put them on length-wise as seems most appropriate. We had to add scotch tape. Not that big of a deal. At the end, you also end up with this useless plastic lid cachunker that there's really nothing to do with other than discard. Still, my daughter was over the moon about this. She had such a great time choosing colors and naming them on the labels, and has been carrying them around all over in the nice little drawstring bag they provide to put them in, and using them for everything she can come up with.

This is genuinely an all-inclusive kid that includes everything that you need to make some pretty cool markers. I expected it to be fun for the kids but had no idea how much they would actually enjoy it. My niece and my boys all had a blast getting creative and making their own marker colors. To be honest I was expecting a bunch of ugly brown to be the by-product hahaha! But they included a blending guide to help the kids with mixing ratios. Very simple process and nowhere near as messy as I expected. The markers are actually very pigmented and saturated with ink so I can definitely see them lasting as long as a regular set you would get from the store. There are a few things that caused me to rate this kit 4 stars vs 5. The ink will stain your hands and clothes. You can wash it off your hands if you scrub with soap but it's still tends to get in the creases of your fingerprints. Not so sure about the clothes because I made sure the kids were careful with that. It only comes with the primary colors of ink for you to blend. You get a lot of colors from this as we all know, just not some of the colors we were really hoping to get considering they were advertised on the front of the box. So I feel a little misled there when it comes to the cyan aqua blue color and pink because those are impossible to achieve with the primary colors. If white was included with it then everything would be perfect! Also the markers are so saturated with highly pigmented ink that it bleeds right through the paper, not only on to the other side but on to the next page as well. That's just from a couple of swipes. As far as the value goes, I feel like the amount of fun the kids had made it well worth it. They are begging me to order another kit. Overall, great craft for the kids and we highly recommend it!

Since writing my original comment, I was contacted by customer service (Rachel) from the store, about this product. I’ve changed my review based on they’re great customer service, they sent a brand new kit, and upon opening the kit after I received it, there was no damages! No ink leaking. If you have any issues after receiving this product, I highly recommend contacting them first before writing a review, they actually care about they’re customers. (I also added a picture of the new kit) Vary disappointed with this kit, it really does have great potential, it actually works. However the yellow ink bottle had a leak in it, (really a hole) it leaked everywhere inside. I had to open it over the sink. Luckily the ink doesn’t stain metal or plastic. Unfortunately the ink soaked one of the sponges. There’s some major flaws in the packaging. The insert sponges that are for soaking the colors should be packaged separately like the marker tips were. Each ink bottle should have extra protective packaging around the caps. Should also include gloves (however the instructions do mention to wear an old shirt and gloves for the project) The biggest issues is that it came packaged with another item from a different order, If the ink leaked through the box, it could’ve ruined another item. I was able to clean everything, the ink came right off everything else. Besides this issue, this kit is great for kids, the plastic cases are vary durable and made with quality material, it makes 10 markers. You can also add some food essential scented flavors to make scented markers. The instructions are really easy to follow with pictures, the marker labels are really cute and cool, the color mixing chart is really easy to follow as well. Was not packaged well! (If you do get this kit make sure to open it before wrapping it to give to any kids!) shipped on time.
