Solid Snorkel That Just Works—Mares Knows What They’re Doing I recently picked up a Mares snorkel for a trip to the Keys, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with it. I’ve used cheaper snorkels in the past that either filled up with water constantly, felt awkward in my mouth, or just didn’t stay in place. This one? Total game changer. Right away, the build quality stood out. The materials feel durable but still lightweight, and the mouthpiece is soft and super comfortable—even after over an hour in the water, I didn’t feel that jaw fatigue you sometimes get. Breathing through it was smooth and effortless, and the dry top valve actually worked—which was huge for me, especially with choppy waves. One of my favorite features is how securely it clips to my mask. It stayed put the entire time, even when diving down a few feet to get a closer look at the reef. No slipping, no awkward adjustments—just set it and forget it. Also, the purge valve at the bottom is clutch. If any water gets in (which was rare), a simple exhale clears it right out without having to pop the snorkel off your mouth or panic-gulp air. Compared with semi-dry models, this open snorkel is streamlined, so that it produces less drag in the water and is not caught in the wind. Without deflectors or floats, it is lighter and more comfortable to wear for longer periods. It also provides less resistance to my breath, so I breathe easier and the snorkel makes less noise. When I feel some water in the tube, I just blow out the exhaust valve to clear. When I dive under the waves, the streamlined tube doesn’t buck and try to rip my mask off. The tube fills with water, but I hold my breath and when I’m back on the surface, a short exhalation clears the snorkel. This is also a comfortable snorkel. The bottom is slightly flexible, and the angle is right to fit my mouth. And if I close my eyes, there is so little resistance that I feel like I am breathing on the surface. Super! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This no-nonsense snorkel is perfect for freediving. When I surface quickly, it remains very stable and hydrodynamic (laminar rather than turbulent flow) and does not tug on the mask strap. My old snorkel was too flexible; it oscillated when I came up fast and started pulling my mask off my face. Problem solved. The snorkel is also well reviewed by professionals. The mouthpiece is comfortable, and the materials are durable. This is specialized equipment for a specialized audience. I wish I had bought it years ago. ... show more

Mares delivers advanced/interesting technology in most of their products. However, it can be appreciated and understood by those who are involved in the sport for at least a decade. This snorkel is low drag, soft where it should be and rigid accordingly. The length is JUST RIGHT. Misleading comments, stating that it is too short, posted probably by beginners, should not be taken under consideration. Also, breathing is unrestricted. I am involved in the sport for many years, use only brand name products of different manufacturers and know which devices recommend. ... show more

Went on vacation down in Utila to swim with whale sharks, worked great, low drag can put it on either side. Left it with a researcher from Cancun because it would have cost him 28 to get a similar one in Mexico.

This is a very good quality snorkel. I gave this 4 stars because.... I was really looking forward to use this because of the Dual component technology. I expected the contrast to be much greater between the hard plastic part of the tube and the rest of the tube which is supposed to be softer, more flexible. In my humble opinion the difference between hardness is not that great and I'm not sure if it's significant. Still an awesome snorkel but I didn't get much out of the Dual aspect it's supposed to have. I prefer the flexibility of the tube on the Mares Samurai snorkel ... show more

Really loving this snorkel, upgraded from a lower grade freediving snorkel. This one is so comfy, angled perfectly, and I really can breathe quiet it a bit more easily. While freediving it does not jiggle around like my old snorkle used to, nor make noise that may scare fish. Really happy with this purchase, and I've had a lot of snorkels in the past. ... show more
