I wish I had this last fall when I was threshing my corn by hand, giving myself blisters in the process. However, I don't think it would have worked as well with the corn I grew, since my popcorn ears are smaller heirloom varieties and this thresher worked far better with the larger commercial ears of popcorn. I should note that while the item title says it's for dry corn, the description states: "Corn Sheller Works efficiently with both wet and dry corn,..." Therefore, I assumed it would work with wet corn. Unfortunately it did not work that well with wet. It turned into a mess and mushed up a lot of the kernels so I abandoned that activity quickly. Whether you use wet or dry, put down some paper to catch the kernels because they will fly further than you think! My one big complaint was the instructions. They were printed so tiny that it took a magnifying glass and extra help to assemble. Reading glasses weren't enough, even my 20/20 vision teenager complained about the text being too small. That's part of the reason it took me months to put together, it was just too much of a pain to read the text, much less see the diagrams clearly. ... show more

I’ve been using this manual corn thresher for dry corn, and it works better than I expected. The frame is solid and feels heavy-duty, not flimsy. Once it’s set up and clamped down, it stays stable while cranking. It shells corn pretty fast for a hand-powered tool, and the kernels come off clean without getting smashed. The hand crank turns smoothly, though it does take some effort if you’re doing a large batch. For small farm use or backyard projects, it’s very manageable. I like that it doesn’t need electricity, so I can use it anywhere. Cleanup is simple too—just brush out the leftover kernels. Assembly took a little time, but everything lined up fine. The red and black finish looks nice and hasn’t chipped so far.
