Drive Impact Wrench w/ Detent Anvil (5.0Ah), Tool Only (XWT15Z) provides improved fastening control, ideal for automotive, installation, and fabrication trades. The impact wrench combines extended run time and speed control for unmatched fastening performance. It is powered by a Makita-built brushless motor for longer run time. Makita 18V LXT Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. Batteries are sold separately. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls . Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. • Great Tool, IMHO Amongst Best in Class
Size: One Size
Exclusively use Makita cordless and Bosch Corded power tools. I love this tool. Used exclusively for automotive work (wheel removal/Installation, clutch replacement, water pump replacement, etc.). Zips off car/SUV wheel lug nuts without issue. Tightening auto-off feature at varying torque amounts is awesome for preventing overtightening. It's we'll insulated/armored, has been soaked with various greased and oils, dropped from waist level, and endured occasional off-label use to strike items with back of tool. Pricey but worth the money, efficient battery usage. Ergonomics and moderate weight prevent fatigue even after prolonged one handed use in awkward positions. Sockets stay firmly attached but are easily removed with a strong grip and pull. LED is bright and very useful. Soft start trigger prevents twisting your wrist unexpectedly. Just a solid, well designed, reliable, professional grade tool. ... show more

  • Worked for water heater anode
Size: One Size
Purchased to remove water heater anode for the first time on Rheem water heater. The factory infamously installs them incredibly tight, and my impact driver (XDT15) could not budge it. On speed 4, the XWT15 popped that sucker loose in 2-3 seconds with a 2ah battery. The various fastening modes seem useful, but I found that I had plenty of control in speed 1, which I used to reinstall the anode after checking it. I initially reinstalled to hand-tight, but that turned out not to be watertight. I used speed 1 to tighten an additional 1/2 turn. Per my kitchen scale, it's only 3 lbs with the 2ah, 2.6lbs without. The head is probably light enough that it would be balanced with a 4ah or 5ah. Feels great in the hand, but I have not used it for long periods of time. Update: After four years, I really like this tool. I've used it for everything from replacing >20 yr old motor mounts to regular tire rotations. It's the perfect package of power and control for my use case, and it has fit everywhere I've needed it to. ... show more

  • Don’t take the torque values literally
Size: One Size
Is this an amazing gun? Yes! Will this gun give you 444ftlbs torque in reverse all day long? Most likely not. I have a 1 ton SRW (single rear wheel) pick up. The lugs are 22mm. Did this wrench remove them? Yes but? But what? It did remove them with much complaining and vibration. You could tell very easily the gun was not happy. My air compressor has given up the ghost and I had to use this gun for the job no choice. Normally I don’t use my tools to their maximum capacities. I like to keep all my tools in their sweet spots. I did figure this would be a good test. Yes the lugs could have been over torqued by a service station mechanic but that happens. You have no choice but to be ready for these things. The gun did work? Yes, but out of the 8 lugs I was all but sure I was going to have to get my breaker bar for 2 of them. The gun did eventually remove all 8 but I would not want to do that type of heavy work with this gun on a regular basis. The 2 toughest lugs took 10 full seconds of hammering to start turning. That’s a lot of vibration into ones hand. I just placed an order for the Makita model 8. The big boy in their line with 1100-ftlb’s of torque in reverse. I’ll let you know how that gun preforms. Final thoughts?—— Would I buy this gun again? Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes and Yes! Great gun! Just keep it to the below 200-ftlb fasteners and leave the 1 ton lugs to the big boys. This gun will work in a pinch but I’d rather have its big brother to the larger jobs. Added 7-3-21. Watch the prices on this wrench! The current price is now 40 bucks higher than I paid in Feb? I don’t know what this is all about but it seems every time I look at this wrench it’s a different price? ... show more

  • MAKITA FTW
Size: One Size
I mean it’s Makita, what more is there to say. In all seriousness tho, this impact has got some heat for its small size. Can break loose everything I throw at it. Could take a lug nut off a 1/4 ton truck no sweat, haven’t done anything too crazy yet but we’ll see. Also the feature where u can turn the light on or off with a switch is so convenient. Prior models you’d have to repeatedly depress the trigger to keep it on. Not anymore :) ... show more

  • Wheel hubs made easy
Size: One Size
I got this impact to tackle a wheel hub, which requires removing an axle nut of about 230ft/lbs. No problem for this guy. If you're shopping this against the M12 stubby, consider this and a jointed socket - while the m12 stubby is capable, it doesn't deliver the instant performance this does. I forget if it was hub bolts or a caliper bracket, but the M12 stubby needed a couple seconds to get up to speed while this Makita ripped them right off. Almost overkill for my car. Oh, and get the detent pin. It's easier to get sockets on than a friction ring, and anyone blowing smoke about using a tool to remove them hasn't tried this puppy. Sockets slide off with a firm yank. ... show more

  • Excellent impact gun
Size: One Size
I used to do everything with just hand tools but I realized that time is important. This tool has cut my repair time more than half. I really enjoy the torque settings cause sometimes you need a light touch and sometimes you need some umph. This model has the detent ball on the arbor, some people don't like this but I do, it helps keep the impact socket secure and not fly off. Highly recommend! ... show more
