Description

Corded power meets cordless convenience with the 18V LXT Brushless Compact Router Kit, model XTR01T7. The 18V LXT Router has an efficient Makita BL Brushless Motor for up to 50% longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. The kit includes two efficient 18V LXT 5.0Ah batteries, and each reaches a full charge in only 45 minutes – the fastest charge-time in the category – for less downtime and increased productivity. The XTR01T7 is engineered for a full range of cabinetry and woodworking applications. It has a variable speed control dial (10,000 – 30,000) RPM) to match the speed to the application, with electronic speed control to maintain constant speed under load and soft start feature for smoother start-ups and better accuracy. Convenience features include the smooth rack-and-pinion fine depth adjustment system for more precise settings, dual L.E.D. lights to illuminate the work surface, and a quick release cam lock system for convenient depth adjustments and base removal/installation. The kit includes a plunge base, and additional bases and attachments are available (sold separately). For users of corded Makita Compact Routers (models RT0700C, RT0701C), the bases used with these corded routers are fully compatible with the XTR01T7. In addition, the XTR01T7 easily connects to Makita vacuum cleaners with the optional dust nozzle for improved dust extraction. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls . Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection- equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

The Makita XTR01Z 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Compact Router has been a game-changer in my woodworking projects. This versatile tool offers precision and power in a compact design. Unlike other routers I've used, the Makita XTR01Z operates smoothly, thanks to its brushless motor technology. Whether I'm trimming edges, hollowing out grooves, or crafting intricate designs, this router delivers consistent and clean results. One thing that sets the Makita XTR01Z apart from other routers is its cordless convenience. I no longer have to worry about finding a power outlet or dealing with tangled cords. The 18V LXT Lithium-Ion battery provides ample runtime, allowing me to work on my projects without interruptions. Another standout feature is the ergonomic design of this router. It's comfortable to hold and easy to control, even during long hours of use. The variable speed control allows me to adjust the cutting speed to suit different materials and tasks, ensuring precise and efficient woodworking. In terms of durability, Makita has always impressed me, and the XTR01Z is no exception. It feels robust and well-built, capable of handling the demands of professional woodworking. Plus, the easy-to-change bases make it a versatile tool for various applications. • Fantastic Battery Powered Small Router
Style: Kit
This router is great. It is small, light weight, the adjustment mechanism is good. Better than my larger Dewalt one, which is still a great tool, this is just more handy for portability and certain types of jobs where the large Dewalt is cumbersome. Battery life is great. Accuracy is great, build quality is great, and it has plenty of power to do what it is build to do. It's easier to use and manage than a larger router, and the kit here comes with an awesome case which works with my other Makita cases, like the one my track saw came in. I have only recently been using some Makita tools, and really like them. I traditionally use Dewalt as that is where my ecosystem for batteries started, and it sometimes sucks to have two tool ecosystems but, overall after I tested the track saw I had batteries and thought this would be the next good tool to try. Haven't been disappointment at all. Really recommend this if you need a small, portable, easy to handle and maneuver, powerful, battery powered hand held router that has a high build quality. Great tool. ... show more

  • Terrific Router, Clunky Depth Adjustment
Style: Bare Tool
The Makita XTR01Z 18V LXT Brushless Compact Router is essentially the cordless version of the Makita RT0701CX3 1-1/4 hp compact router, except it has a brushless motor. In fact, the accessories (bases, dust collection, etc.) for both power tools are completely interchangeable. From a features perspective, the XTR01Z checks all the right boxes: - Excellent ergonomics and smooth operation - Above average battery life - Electronically-controlled BL Brushless motor (matches torque and rpm to application) - Soft start - Wide rpm range (10,000 - 30,000) - Ample power (for a cordless compact tool) - Included 3/8" collet - Available plunge / tilt / offset bases - Optional* dust collection (*included with some of the earlier models) The separate lock/unlock and power buttons are a great safety feature, to avoid unintentionally powering on the router and gouging the workpiece... and your fingertips at the same time. There is even an optional accessory (Makita 194579-2 Router Guide Rail Adapter) that integrates the XTR01Z with Makita track saw guide rails. Despite all its great features, the depth adjustment is annoyingly clunky, because the depth release lever must be in a certain position (just partially open) to allow movement in small increments, else the force of gravity causes the motor assembly to drop down to the base (or base down to the motor if inverted) when the lever is fully open. Since there is nothing to maintain the current depth setting upon releasing the lever, an inordinate amount of trial-and-error is required to obtain a greater or exact depth. Here, Makita should have provided some type of braking or resistance mechanism on the pinion knob or a secondary (micro-adjustment) knob; at the very least, a small spring to preload the depth release lever and maintain the correct open position for fine adjustment would have been helpful. In this regard, if cutting mortises for door hinges, strike plates, etc., the Ridgid R86044B 18V Cordless Brushless 1/4" Compact Router, with its excellent threaded rod depth adjustment, would be the tool of choice since it allows the required cutting depth to be "dialed-in" quickly and easily, although it does lack some of the power and refinement of the Makita. Another minor complaint is that the bottom opening in the base has just barely enough clearance for a guide bushing (Porter-Cable type) lock nut if so configured, although this annoyance only applies to template or other offset routing applications that depend on a guide bushing. In conclusion, Makita XTR01Z has a stellar feature set, and if you overlook the awkward depth adjustment and some other minor issues, it's perhaps the best cordless router available today.
