  • Makita
Man oh man where to begin this tool is like god it’s self the vibration on the thing is non exciting the built of it is like a 1989 ford freaking ranger it’ll last for the rest of your life makita makes a quality tool that will last longer than your wife. It cuts through anything and I mean anything like it was butter with a 5.0 it’ll last all day long the weight is not to heavy it is a bit bulky but it fits perfectly in my hand I’m a big dude so if you have little baby hands I don’t recommend this is a great tool with amazing specs and great handling I would recommend buying into this brand if you’re already on the platform it’s better. It being brushless and black it looks super nice and cool. The speed adjuster is super easy to use and easy to find. ... show more

  • Rough Framing Metal Studs
I've used this tool for a few months now, bought in April of 2024 (this year). It's worked very well, I had to buy better blades to get its full potential, Diablo not cheap chinese crap. I have used the diablo blades to cut through track on the foundation, this thing warms up a bit after 10 minutes of heavy use, but it powers through the metal studs no problem and it doesn't get hot, just warm. If you have concrete dust on the ground you'll wanna wear a respirator because this thing vibrates the dust into the air then the fan kicks it high so you breathe it, it's also extremely loud (when cutting metal, but is no louder than a drill when used on wood or drywall), but that's fine with ear protection. Nice clean line, too. I'm going to get one of these, and a hammer-drill for my sister as a basic toolkit that imo everyone should own, even renters. It's an oscillating sander, and a great saw. I had the old Makita oscillating multi-tool and this is indeed worth the money. Reduced vibration, I can use my 6a batteries so I get better battery life, better grip, nicely weighted. It's a quality tool. Looking forward to the OSHA attachment to for my rotary hammer, so the dust won't be an issue again. ... show more

  • Great tool beware it does not take normal blades
Great tool, lightweight- you can never go wrong with makita products and their quality. I love that it has variable speeds. One con that I did not know about is that these take special blades. There are no knockoff blades with for the starlock tool. The higher priced blades wear out just as much as the off brand ones. Hoping someone will offer off brand blades soon. Cutting depends on the blade and the blades I bought after one use no longer worked. This however has nothing to do with the makita tool itself. Overall good value for the money ... show more

  • Be careful, Fein makes application specific tools for specific industrial applications.
Be careful of the speed you use and the length of time in use. Its oscillation stroke length this new model is about 4 degrees to each side which can be twice the length of other brands and the original Makita tool. If you were to use a to use the new tool at the speed of a competitive tool you risk burning out the blades. The upside is that you can run the tool at slower speeds and at lower vibration levels and get the same cutting performance. The headline above addresses application specific limitations and there are special Fein blades that predate the Starlock system. These older style blades do not work with Starlock. Its interesting to look at the big Fein catalog and see the variety of applications for which Fein developed specific blades. I found that glaziers working on high rise building at one time used specific Fein blades to remove caulk without damaging the mullions (the frames around glass). Wooden boat decks often have special caulking which is replaced periodically and often relies on special Fein blades which remove the caulk without damaging the wooden planks. Fein has developed specific automotive applications too. In these applications yellow and red tools are not likely found., Lastly, I surprisingly find Makita acolytes who make broad assumptions on tool performance on tools which only differ in color. In most cases they are the same. I have been told that the differing Japanese trades use tools of specific colors so that it is obvious on the jobsite when one tradesman such as a plumber is seen using tools that used that are typically used by electricians. I suspect that this color coding is used for all sorts of tools including hand tools. ... show more
