Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries resist self- discharge so they’re ready for use even after long periods of storage. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star protection Computer controls™. Star protection is communication technology that allows the tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. The dual port Rapid optimum charger offers key advantages and new levels of efficiency for Makita 18V Lithium-Ion cordless tool users. This thing charges so fast, batteries last really long! The carrying case is an added bonus, although I don’t use it for my majors stuff. The quality of the bag they throw in is quite good, and it ought to be given what these extra batteries and charger cost. The batteries and charger are the same ones you get in the bigger combo kits. Price this and those bigger kits carefully, as this is probably not the best deal for most people. You usually do better if you buy battery, charger and a tool together. But if you just need another charger and some batteries this is the way to go. Makita stuff ain't cheap. But it holds up really well over time. If you can pay the price of admission, you won't be sorry to move up to premium quality tools. ... show more

    • Was a 6 star set of tools until I bought replacement's, still in love but not as much
I purchased a couple new tools for my 18V kit from a few years back. Now these batteries are great when used on a double battery tool or a single battery tool, but only the ones that the battery fits on. This was not listed in the description when I purchased the 5.0 and if it had been, I would have held off and bought 3.0 or 4.0 replacements that do fit everything. Thats kinda of crappy thing to do to such great tools is advertise that they fit everything when they don't. They are still great replacements and I will continue to use my tools and batteries and replace when needed, unless Makita fails to keep good quality. Not exactly what I was expecting form a great line of tools ... show more

Nice set of batteries, charger and case. I used these to replace some old 3.0 mah batteries and am very pleased with the performance. And the charger seems much better than my old one. Switching from 3.0 to 5.0 batteries is a huge advantage. And I like the ability to see the state of charge LEDs on the batteries so you know to swap out for a fresh battery before starting a new project. ... show more

Will charge 2 dead 5mah batteries in about 50min this was a huge game changer for me personally as I needed both more batteries and dual bay charger. I'm not sure the issues some have had with the batteries not pairing with their older model tools? I've had absolutely no issues and use them both daily and have for about a month straight now ... show more

Didn’t power on then had to pay $50 to return it through ups. Makita products have gone downhill in my opinion. I’d switch to dewalt if I want already so invested.
