Description

The Makita 5007MG 7-1/4 in. Magnesium Circular Saw features highly durable magnesium components and a powerful 15 AMP Makita-built industrial motor. • I just may have to switch everything over to blue
Style: Circular saw
Over the past 20 years i have only owned the red name brand high dollar circular saws but they just dont last, at a rough count I am on number 13 or 14 which is ridiculous. I currently have 3 on my shelf in my shop to be repaired and 4 in my job trailer and they are basically all worn out or have issues and i take pride in taking care of my tools. Enough is enough so I decided to make a change. A year ago I purchased a makita 10" miter saw and it performs flawlessly, very happy, so i decided I was going blue with my circular saw also. After one day of use I couldn't be happier. Extremely lightweight, feels great in the hand, and cuts beautifully. I cant speak to longevity yet but it cant be any worse than what Ive had. Alot is said about them being made in china, well to be honest I dont care where its made as long as its quality and it works and lasts. Im pretty sure the red ones are American made and they have been garbage for me for 20 years. I've made up my mind that as any future tools die they will be replaced with blue ... show more

  • Super
Style: Circular saw
Makita is great, this saw is no exception. Light, accurate out of the box. Comes with carry case which is nice. Quiet, powerful. Would buy again. I own four Makita circular saws from this one up to their largest almost 19 inch saw and they are all excellent. Used daily for years.

  • Great saw!
Style: Circular saw
This is a very good circular saw. I bought it to replace a Porter-Cable that I’d had for about 20 years and had lent to a neighbor who tended to use dubious extension cords. I should have known…but this story has a happy ending because now I have a much better saw. This Makita is very smooth, powerful and rips plywood quite clean & true with the provided blade. The blade positioning locks work well and easily. I like it’s retro looks and even though I usually don’t use the cases that tools come in, I’m going to use this one because it fits and works so well. ... show more

  • Excellent Saw!
Style: Circular saw
This is a top-notch circular saw! I have struggled for the last five years with an inexpensive Ryobi 6.5" saw with this base that seems impossible to dial in so that it is of any sort of use to me. This Makita has a very nice base and adjustment system that seems to be far more accurate and easy to use than my old saw. I like it a lot. The storage box is lives in was banged up a bit in shipping, which pissed me off. But my other teal blue Makita cases are all pretty banged up now, so this one still looks much better by comparison. I did not buy this for the case, and there is nothing *wrong* with it. I just wish Makita would put these in a BOX like the cheaper model instead of in a super-thin cardboard sleeve that leaves the box open to all sorts of abuse as it gets shipped around the world from the maker to the US, to the distributor, to the store, and finally to me. You need to do better in this regard, Makita. The more costly saw is packed really poorly. BOOOOOOOO!!! Otherwise an EXCELLENT product that I hope to use for many years. The hype online about this model is accurate. It is not the best circular saw in this price and power range, but it is really good and I am pleased with my purchase. I love Makita tools! ... show more

  • Great saw but some guard issues.
Style: Circular saw
Bought this saw to replace my old Craftsman. Used to use Makita circular saws at work and always liked them. Was pleasantly surprised it went through almost all types of wood like butter straight out of the case. Know some say the blade it comes with is real cheap but it sure cut wood, even treated 2X6's, great. LED light is a real nice feature and can see your lines easily in low light. Have even used it in the dark. Adjustments of deck and angle work very easily with large rubber coated flip locks. I was real leery of buying this saw because of the reports the blade guard does not ride up off the wood easily. I did not find this to be the case and then tried cutting a 45 degree angle (blade beveled) through a treated 1X4 with a speed square up against the deck. Half way through the board the guard jammed against the wood, the wood just starting smoking, and the saw wanted to kick back. Tried this numerous times with the same result. If you had an extra hand to pull the guard up manually this wouldn't happen but no can do if you're holding a speed square. You should adjust the blade depth just enough to cut through the wood but it appears this is a designer/engineering flaw. Would have given this saw a 5 star rating except for this blade guard problem when cutting angles. It's an excellent saw if you don't cut angles. ... show more

  • Easy for a Beginner
Style: Circular saw
I have never used a circular saw before in my life, but today I used it to rebuild our old deck. I made ross cuts on angles, beveled cuts for the corners, and rip cuts using the special rip guide. The saw was remarkably easy to use and the cuts came out perfectly. It was also a lot of fun. It was a little tricky to balance the saw while setting up the rip guide so my wife had to tighten the knob once I got the rip guide in just the right place. The idea of making rip cuts scared me, but they were the easiest cuts to make with this saw because of the guide. ... show more
