  • When you need to cut concrete indoors
This saw works very well when used as directed in the instructions. I have it powered from a 20-amp outlet and I take my time cutting and let the tool do the work. Previous reviewers commented that it constantly trips breakers, but this was not my experience. If you try to hurry the cutting process, you'll put an excessive load on the motor which causes it to draw a higher current which, in turn, trips the breaker. I needed to cut concrete indoors and I couldn't use a gasoline powered saw since they produce deadly carbon monoxide, so I purchased this saw. I also use it to cut those keystone-shaped landscape retaining wall blocks in one pass. It produces an accurate and clean cut. I am very satisfied with this tool. ... show more

  • Not disappointed.
Purchased this instead of renting for my remodel. Cut away part of my existing driveway to pour a new slab. Had to cut the curb also and it cut through the rebar just fine. Also cut the brick off the side of the house. I could have used a smaller grinder for the brick, but I wanted to get a nice clean cut all the way through. This grinder hasn't disappointed me at all so far. The one thing I wish it had was a water attachment to minimize dust and cool the blade, but I just had someone hold a hose for me. Overall, I think it's a great value as opposed to renting for more than a couple days work. Since I know I'll be using it more in the future, but not regularly, I wanted to go electric rather than dealing with maintenance on a gas saw. ... show more

  • Excellent Saw
I worked as a hardscape installer many years ago. We had gas powered saws, of course - our favorite was a 14" Partner saw, and we also had a Stihl saw which was a little less balanced. I still do small hardscape projects from time to time, and wanted to see if it would be economical to buy a saw this time around instead of renting one. This saw was the perfect choice. One was available on an "open box" deal for $460 from Amazon Warehouse, so I scooped it up. I've ordered open box items from Crutchfield before and they always end up being a good deal, but never on Amazon. If you do order open box items on Amazon, make sure you order them from Amazon Warehouse as I did, because then it comes with the Amazon free return guarantee. Open box items from 3rd party sellers do not come with the same guarantee. Long story short - I love this saw and am glad I ordered it. I applied $250 worth of Amazon points to the purchase, so cash cost was $210. A 2 day rental of the same saw from Home Depot plus a $70 blade would have cost me $200, so essentially the only cost to me was $250 worth of Amazon points. The saw arrived in a box which was very beat up - but no doubt this is why it was listed as an open box item. The depth adjustment plate was bent, so this is why I took a star off. In my case it didn't matter, because that plate would have came off the saw immediately anyway, and I probably will never put it back on... but it would be nice to have it if needed. In terms of power - this saw does not have any issues with stalling. The first day that I ran it, I ran it off an outdoor receptacle that is on a 20A breaker. The saw would trip the breaker sometimes immediately after pulling the trigger, from the startup surge. I ran it like that for a day or two before trying a different receptacle that is on a 15A circuit. After switching to the other receptacle it has not tripped the breaker once. Overall this saw runs great. So far I've used it to cut up four 4' x 4' slabs of THICK (8" thick or more) concrete that I had to remove, and have started cutting in pavers to replace the concrete. The blade doesn't go 8" deep, of course, but I was able to get deep enough to go through the steel rod that was in the slabs, so that was all I needed. The only improvement I would like is if the blade would stay off the ground when you set it down - similar to a gas saw. It doesn't sit upright very well when you set it down, and as said the blade touches the ground - so you always need to grind it to a stop after powering it down... but that's a minor setback. Overall this is an excellent saw, and I'm not disappointed in the purchase. The only reason for knocking off a star is that if you need to use the depth adjustment plate, other reviews indicate that they bend easily or arrive bent, as mine did. So Makita could make some improvements there. ... show more

  • Powerful Saw that will get the job done
I purchased this saw to cut in a drain in front of a garage door. I needed to make a 30 foot long trench to install drain pipe and grate in front of the garage door to keep water from pouring under the garage door. This saw did a GREAT job. I used a water hose with a light stream of water running against the side of the blade and it virtually eliminated any dust. The saw have PLEANTY of power and the concrete was between 4 and 5 inches thick. Glad I didn't buy on with a 13" blade as the 14" barely went deep enough. If could see the saw holding up to some serious work. Yes the plate and depth piece are a little flimsy but most demo saws don't even have them and I had no problem with it. I let the saw cut at a steady pace and didn't force it along. ... show more

  • For my project, much cheaper than renting.
Where I live, it cost $300 a week to rent a concrete saw. And a rental does not come with a blade. A 14” concrete blade will cost a little more than $200. So, the first week rental will be $500. Since I needed a saw for a minimum of four weeks, I purchased this one. Installing the blade on the saw is not straightforward. It took me about three tries before I got it right. Both on the saw and in the instruction manual it says very clearly to pull the saw toward you when cutting. Never push it. In some of the reviews and other videos, I saw people pushing the saw. Pulling the saw toward you greatly reduces the chance of kickback. This saw has the power to cut through 4.75” of concrete at one time. You do not want this saw kicking back toward you. The saw does not cut deep enough to cleanly cut through 5” of concrete. 4.5” to 4.75” is the best I was able to do. I used this saw on a 75’, 12 AWG extension cord plugged into a 20 amp GFCI protected circuit with no issues. I recommend attaching a wet/dry vac to collect as much dust as possible. If your wet/dry vac gives you the option of using a filter or a bag, use the bag. Do not use water to control the dust. This is an electrical, not a gas powered, saw. Also, wear a mask, ear and eye protection when using it. ... show more

  • With care this tool can be used for wet sawing concrete, although manufacturer warns against this.
Good quality tool. Easy to use and control. We used just enough water on blade to minimize dust. It cuts very well for its size.
