There are many many of these over the door mini-basketball hoops on the market, and some of them have features that are - perhaps of necessity (see below) - missing from this Majestic Hoops set. But in my situation, I believe this set may uniquely be the best for me. Below I outline the good and the not so great about the Majestic Hoops set. In the end I chose to give it five stars, because it allowed me to have a hoop in my study that would otherwise not have been possible without messing up the door or not being able to close it. The tie-breaker for me is the very narrow, plastic bracket that goes over the door to hold the backboard in place. Although the thickness measurement of these supports seems to NEVER be available online for any of these mini-sets, from the posted photographs it appears to me that all of them - except for the Majestic Hoops - are so thick that I would not be able to close the door with the unit in place. What a drag. Reviews of some of the other units online mention the problem of not being able to close the door as being only a bit of a nuisance, but to me this is a non-starter. I suppose a swinging door does introduce an additional challenge to making a shot, but for me, there are already enough challenges! In the first of three photos I've posted, showing the back of my office door with the backboard in place - you can see that the plastic bracket is just thin enough to allow the door to close even with the tight fit of door to frame. Any thicker and you would have to try to force it and, even if successful, put a gouge in the top of the door and frame. The single, thin plastic bracket only works for the Majestic Hoops set because the overall unit is quite light, and is not designed for rough treatment such as dunking or hanging on the rim. That's OK with me. Dunking would be a completely artificial and awkward experience with any over the door backboard unit, is seems to me, since all or part of one's body would always be crashing into the door or moving unnaturally in order to avoid a crash. Another stress-saving aspect of this unit is that the rim is made of plastic rather than metal, cutting the overall weight of the unit which, again, allows the use of the plastic bracket. Sure, I would have preferred a metal rim - the plastic has a lot of flex that metal would not have, changing the dynamics of the ball hitting the hoop. But this is a compromise I'm willing to make. Same argument for the very light backboard of the Majestic Hoops, compared to more substantial ones in most other available units. Another compromise that I'm even less happy with is the way the hoop is supported on the backboard. Most of the mini-basketball sets have the bracket holding the hoop in place completely underneath the hoop, which is more accurate with respect to the full sized game. In this set, the bulk of the brace is above the level of the rim and protrudes significantly into the space the ball has to negotiate (see third posted photo). This leads to many failed shots which should have gone in, as the ball rockets off the protruding brace. This is especially egregious in shots with a trajectory perpendicular to the backboard, as in a foul shot. Of course, in any basketball set-up there will be occasional shots that hit the back of the rim and bounce out, but these are relative rarities. This is a much bigger problem in Majestic Hoops set. It's not clear, given the low weight of everything, including the balls, why this structural approach to attaching the hoop to the backboard was chosen. It would be a nice touch if the manufacturer reassessed whether the over-the-hoop bump can be removed, perhaps in favor of a more substantial brace underneath the rim. This should be possible, if there were more backboard underneath the rim. The balls are fine and the simple, functional air pump included is a very nice touch. One interesting point made online about these mini-basketball sets in general is the question of the proportion of the ball to the hoop - it was pointed out that in the adult game, two basketballs can fit side by side within the 18" diameter hoop. Not so in most of the mini-sets. In many of them, including the one reviewed here, the hoop is 9" and the ball is 5". But that's not so bad, I think. I have seen some products online that seem to have balls that are much bigger, like 6" with a 9" hoop. A final note on attaching the backboard. The plastic over-the-door bracket seems to be designed to accommodate a wide range of door thicknesses, such that for a typical 1.5" to 2" door, the plastic bracket is much longer than necessary. In my case this extra plastic unavoidably (due to the tightness of the door frame) projects out on the backboard side of the door when the door is closed (see second posted photo). This leads to the backboard protruding out at the top, and hanging at a slight angle as the bottom of the backboard hits the door, leading to a certain amount of instability, vibrations and noise when the ball hits the backboard. A simple solution to this in my case was to find a 1/2 inch piece of styrofoam and glue it to the lower part of the back of the backboard (see photo) so that the unit now sits square and tight against the door, and its angle is returned to the desired 90 degrees with respect to the floor. Who knows - perhaps some day I'll decide I would rather mess up my office door and frame in trade for having a more substantial basketball set with more desirable features. Maybe I'll even attach a pad to the door to protect me when I crash into it on a dunk! But for now I'm good with the compromises I've made.

Purchase this for my son who wanted a basketball hoop in his room. The command strip did not last long so we ended up drilling it to the wall. He really enjoys this when he wants to toss the ball (either while he is gaming or listening to music). So far it has held up great. It is not too noisy either - both his dad and I were a little concerned about hearing the ball hit the wall lol 😂.

I recently bought Majestic Hoops Mini Basketball Hoop and wanted to share what I liked about it. The package includes everything: the hoop/backboard, a ball, and pump! it has a durable plastic build, for an indoor toy hoop it is solid, especially for the price point. The balls are not noisy at all.
