Someone would have to be deaf to not work for them. I can hear a TV but to understand what is being said "??" I have noticed putting the microphone on top of the TV, farther from the TV speaker, sounds better, and works when I go into another room. I have never written an Amazon review before but I feel compelled to do so. My 92-yr-old grandmother has experienced a gradual loss of hearing, which I wasn’t aware of until I went to Korea for a visit from Los Angeles. She could barely make out what was being said on the TV even with it blaring. I literally sat next to her to be her human amplifier for a week until I finally went online to search for something that might help. I was extremely skeptical but figured it was worth a try. I placed the order and it was shipped internationally from the US and we received it within a week. Long story short, we gave it a whirl today and I am blown away. My grandmother kept trying to convince me not to trouble myself with buying this device but now she is so grateful that I insisted. She is using it exclusively to watch TV. We had the volume up to 37 and now it’s down to 24 and she can hear EVERYTHING. It took a bit of tweaking to figure out the right setting/calibration but it wasn’t that difficult to figure out. This tv-watching help is no help at all. I followed all of the scant instructions given, no sound at all came through when I put it in tv-listening mode. When I had it in regular mode, there was just muffled sound. This device is not of service to me.

It actually made hearing tv and husband worse. With the appliance in place he could hear the tv but sound not real good, and could not hear me at all. That may have been a blessing for him...He had to be changing things around constantly because we do talk to each other while watching tv. Decided he could turn up volume easier than deal with the appliance. ... show more

    • It Did Not Work for Me, but it Maybe it Will for You.
When I was young I use to wonder why older people did not use their hearing aids instead of blasting out speakers on their televisions. Now that I am older and hard of hearing myself, I completely understand that making something louder does not necessarily improve the clarity of what you are trying to listen to. I was hoping that his product would help me hear conversations on the television without turning the volume up to a painful level when the commercials kick in. Well, believe it or not, this product does help clarify what is being said on the television; however, I hear an echo that drives me crazy and it picks up other noises close by that so annoying that I would rather not watch television than to put up with it. Maybe if you live alone this would be a suitable product to help understand what is being said on your television, but if not, I don’t think it will work for you any better than it does for me. On the positive side, this rechargeable wireless hearing amplifier was easy to charge and setup. I simply plugged the audio jack into the television output port and connected the other end into small amplifier device. Then I place the device around my neck and put the ear buds into my ears. I really hoped this product would solve my hearing deficit at home, but like my hearing aids, it just does not work for me. It only makes things louder for me. It does not improve the quality of the sound. Even though this product does not help me, I cannot blame this headset. Not being able to hear is a disability that technology cannot always fix. Accordingly, I will give this amplifier the benefit of the doubt and rate it average because it is not any worse than my hearing aids. I hope it works for you. ... show more

Okay, technically, this Maihear Rechargeable Hearing Amplifier works. It does amplify sound, but it's not quite what I expected and it certainly isn't what I would pay 100+ dollars for. You have a little "microphone" attached to the television and it sends sound to the wireless earbuds. In theory, that's great, and I can hear the television without blaring it. In reality, the sound quality isn't very good - it's kind of tinny like you'd get from one of those old transistor radios. I'm also not sure what they mean by noise cancelling because that little microphone doesn't just pick up the television. It also picks up noises that are nearby. If the cat is close to the TV and meows, it's loud and clear. If the kids are talking nearby, even quietly, it picks that up too. My daughter was opening a bag of chips and it sounded like she was inside my head with it. That would be great if only the TV came through so clearly. There are 2 settings on the earbuds - one is supposed to amplify nearby sound, like when someone is talking to you, and one is supposed to cancel it out. The only difference I could find was that not only nearby sound was amplified, but I could hear every breath I took, every sniffle, every shuffle of fabric when I moved, and it was loud enough to block out the TV, which again, was what I wanted to hear. The only time I get just the TV is when everyone is asleep and my insomnia is rearing its ugly head. Then I can use these to keep the volume of the TV low enough that it doesn't disturb anyone else in the house. Other than that, these aren't what I expected or wanted, and for just that bit of use, I wouldn't consider them worth the rather high pricetag. ... show more
