  • An even better flagship light
Color: HORI 1300 Black
Okay so this is probably my 5th Magicshine devices. Just love how they designed the lights. I used the light for multiple rides before I ride this review. I can say, this is mostly a better light than the previous EVO1700 I had. First of all, this one has a MUCH STRONGER mount than the EVO1700. I do like EVO1700 for its full projector lights and the brightness, but the mount does worry me a bit. Now, the HORI1300 has a much stronger, standard Garmin mount, and you can choose to mount it below or above the bar. I use a Garmin 1030p computer, so it also mounts perfectly on the Magicshine mount. If you use aerobar, you can mount it on your existing bike computer mount too. The shape of the HORI1300 seems to be more aero, but can’t prove since I don’t really ride that fast. Since it’s less boxy, I guess it’s indeed more aero. Weight is about the same as EVO1700. For the brightness. I attached 2 photos, the dimmer one is full low beam, and the other one is full low + high beam. The low beam is as gold as EVO1700 I would say, with the projector lens design it’s not blinding incoming traffic while maintaining a good pattern on the road (even with the light from road lighting, you can still see the low beam overpowering the road lighting). The high beam is reflective style, so it’s shooting higher and can reach further distance, don’t use it if you have incoming traffic, however, it works VERY WELL if you want to let the incoming rude car drivers turn off their high beam, hahaha. The remote is much nicer than the EVO1700. The new remote has rechargeable battery using USB-C. And it’s smaller, with better button feeling than the EVO1700 remote, and it’s designed to use rubber band to strap instead of the previously terrible magic tape, a big improvement. I haven’t tested battery life yet, but per the manual it’s quite good. I don’t ride more than 3 or 4 hrs for one ride, the light usually last longer than that with full low beam (and you don’t need actually full low beam, about 40% low beam is good enough). The light mode and brightness is all customizable thru the app. I usually keep a 20% low beam flash when riding during the day, and put 40% - 60% low beam during the night, and turn on full high + low beam when alerting other traffics. ... show more

  • Bright, Sturdy, Totally Worth It
Color: HORI 1300 Black
The media could not be loaded. I’ve tried a handful of bike lights over the years, and the Magicshine Hori 1300 stands out as one of the best. The beam is impressively bright and evenly distributed—enough to light up dark suburban trails without blinding oncoming riders. The build quality feels solid and premium, not cheap plastic. It’s easy to mount and the bracket holds steady, even on bumpy roads, so I haven’t had to constantly readjust it like with other lights. Battery life is more than enough for my evening rides (about 2 hours on high, longer on medium), and I like that the USB-C charging is quick and convenient. What I also like is that even when it’s not pitch dark—like at dusk or on city streets—the light still works perfectly, giving just the right amount of visibility without being overpowering. One small detail I appreciate is the easy-to-use button and power indicator—it’s simple but makes a big difference when you’re riding at night. If you’re serious about night riding or commuting, this light is a fantastic choice. It’s not the cheapest option, but you’re paying for reliability, brightness, and thoughtful design. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • A Great Light for Winter Road Rides
Color: HORI 1300 Black
The Hori 1300 is a nice piece of cycling kit for winter riding. The light is bright enough for fast paced road rides, but probably not intended for serious off-road trail use. The lighting options are perfect, ranging from a very visible, but not obnoxious flashing mode, to low beam, and all the way up to full brightness. The included remote control makes selecting the right pattern quick and easy. The beam pattern is quite good. There are plenty of mounting options included in the kit. The long extension arm worked for me, but I can also mount the light on my Redshift handlebar bag and then stack my Garmin head unit on top of the light. The light has a bit of weight to it, so probably not my go to choice for daylight only rides when I just need a front flash. The light is compact so it doesn't take up a lot of space in one of my bags. Overall, a very good value for the money paid. ... show more

  • Very high-quality light that could be used for more than just mounting onto a bicycle
Color: HORI 1300 Black
This is a very nice bike light or maybe better as a motorcycle light. It does have the added ability to mount a GoPro camera to the top or bottom of the light. I use that reference because you can flip the light over to the top or bottom, and the bottom is the top. I give it four stars though because it has been tough for me to find a set of bicycle handlebars that are wide enough to properly mount this light. It does include several different added plastic rings, but they have not been enough to keep it properly mounted on my bicycle. I was able to secure it enough though to use it on a ride in the dark and see what kind of a throw the light has. The pictures look terrible, and they’re out of focus. The light does have more than one bright mode. This is a very high-quality, heavy-duty, well-thought-out, and put-together light. It also includes a remote control that can be used for turning the light on and off. That was an easy piece to sync up with the light and uses a simple rubber strap to attach it to the handlebar. In my photos, I had used a gear tie to help support the light around my brake cables. You can see where the GoPro would be mounted. When mounting the light to the handlebars, it uses an Allen wrench screw which gives the added security that it will not come loose during rides like a hand tightened screw could. I could also see this being used as an added light for the GoPro without needing to be mounted to a bicycle. GoPro’s do not have a great night vision and being able to mount this right on top of the light could offer some interesting opportunities for shooting at night. ... show more
