  • Wow! - I wish I’d known about silicone tape sooner
I got this out of curiosity because I’ve never heard of silicone tape or seen it in a store. I make and fix things and it only took about a minute to realize that silicone tape is really useful stuff. I’m going to buy more for my workshop and to keep in my cars for emergency repairs. This tape is .5mm thick. It’s very stretchy and it seems to only stick to itself. It seems like it’ll stick to itself forever if you stretch it as you wrap it around something. I have no doubt that it can fix small leaks in pipes and hoses if you apply it properly. Silicone is resistant to heat and so is this tape. I wrapped some around the nose of some pliers and then applied 500 degree (F) heat from my soldering station’s hot air gun. It had no noticeable effect. So it can probably be used to provide some protection from heat, in addition to some padding and cushioning. I’ve wrapped some around my finger and I think it can be used to make a bandage that will stay in place when many others won’t (But don’t wrap it too tight and cut off circulation). I believe this tape will also be useful for holding large and odd shaped objects together while glue dries. And it might make good handlebar tape for bicycles. It could also be used to make a spacer for cycling computers, phone holders and other bike accessories that are too big to clamp to the handlebars. I’m sure I’m going to find many other uses for this tape. ... show more

  • Really cool stuff
This stuff is *so cool*. I've never used this type of tape before - honestly, I got it more out of curiosity than anything, I know I have a strong preference for silicone wire insulation (so much easier to work with), so I figured, why not give this stuff a try? It's much more flexible/soft than, say, electrical tape. It also seemingly has no adhesive, at least, it only feels slighly tacky when I touch it (on either side). It's fairly thick, relative to vinyl electrical tape, and it'll readily stretch to about twice its relaxed length, at which point it becomes slightly transparent. The magic part is that it really, really sticks to itself! Not immediately - or so quickly that it makes it difficult to work with. But when you wrap it around something, and let it overlap, it really, really grabs on - give it a few seconds to "stick", and it becomes challenging to un-stick. It is, however, possible to un-stick it without tearing it. I'm sure I'll think of many more applications, given time … but off the top of my head, it ought to make a great electrical insulator, a great "grip wrap" for anything you want a better grip on, good for cable management, etc. It's a bit on the expensive side, but I say that with nothing to compare it to - I can imagine that if you need it, you'll probably disagree. ... show more

  • Universal repair tape...with a few exceptions...
Such as around gasoline and other solvents, for attempting to patch a (pressure-side) water supply line... Otherwise, this is a great tape, which sticks only to itself, which makes it great for removable repairs...certainly great for water drain lines. Also excellent for making grips for pliers, garden tools, etc. This tape did not come with instructions, which can make this product a bit of a problem for someone who has never used it before...Basically...there's internet wisdom to consult on this...first, as mentioned, the tape only sticks to itself, so when you begin to tape something, you give it a stretch, make the first wrap fully around the beginning of your wrap, always apply tension as you wrap the object, and at the end, fully wrap the tape around itself again...clear as mud? If you just try taping this around something, hoping that there is some adhesive quality of the tape to anything other than itself, you will be doomed to failure and sadness... All this silicone tape appears to be made in only a few factories, and this tape, probably from Factory #76, performed well, and given that it is a 36-foot roll, it is a good price for what you get ... show more

  • Tape sticks by wrapping around onto itself. Not by adhesive.
For anyone not aware, silicone tape is not an adhesive tape in the traditional sense like "scotch-tape". There is no glue or adhesive on one side. It's just silicone. Since this product is inherently stretchy and tacky, it works when you stretch and wrap the tape over and around itself, making a contact seal. Cylindrical items. Pipes, handles, hoses, bars, etc. This tape can also be used as a temporary grip on clean flat surfaces. Like gripping a cutting board to the kitchen counter while in use. Not the best application in this example because there's no adhesive as mentioned, but you get the idea. When you have the roll of tape in your hands it makes sense right away. Extremely simple to use. Very handy to have around the house for quick repairs and adding grip. This is a permanent addition to my home tool bag, right there next to a roll of duct tape and a multi-tool. 36 feet of this tape for the current (Jan 2024) price of under $10 is a great value. ... show more

  • Good for grip tape
There is no adhesive on either side of this tape, just the natural adhesive quality of silicone rubber sheet attracting to itself. Not appropriate for plumbing use when even moderate pressures are involved. Good for low pressure use like cracked fittings and tubes on drip irrigation where pressures are below 25 psi. Makes good grip tape for handles where non-slip properties are important. Good for things like tennis racket handles, car jack handles, and the like. Extremely stretchy so it can fit a variety of shapes. Adhesion improves over time as long as the tape remains wrapped and does not come loose and get contaminated with oils or debris. ... show more
