It uses galvanized, aircraft quality cable with double locking drive pawls. The drop forged steel frame is galvanized to prevent rust an has an oversized steel safety guard. It has forged steel hooks with osha recommended safety latches. It has an automatic tie-down with a safety catch. The cable guide guards against excessive wear. It works great for lifting materials and fixtures, squaring wood/metal framing and stretching fence and wire. It can also be used for straightening collision damage and securing tent structures.

I use this little beast for pulling out dents, moving downed fences, trees, bushes or whatever comes along. What I like most about this model is the simple design, the quality of components and the 4-ton pull capacity. Owner's Manual: The winch comes setup with 12 feet of cable wound on the spool. Two hooks are attached on each end of the winch. The rear hook must be connected to a solid anchor and the front will be connected to whatever the object is to be pulled. By default one end of the cable in securely wound on the spool and the other end is attached to the winch itself by a link-pin giving a dual cable length of 6 feet (4-ton) pull. The link-pin must be removed in order to pull with (2-ton) with the maximum length of the 12 foot cable. To release the cable from the spool requires a two step procedure as follows: (1) Press upward on the plastic sleeve located on the spring/drive-pawls to the upper slot. This will dis-engage the 'drive-pawls' from the 'ratchet-wheel'. (2) Hold the rear stop-pawl open (photo) using a pair of vise-grips or by hand. Now with both front and rear drive-pawls disengage the cable can be released with ease. A carry-on has no length or distance limitations from from object to anchor. You you can always increase the distance by adding a chain or rope to either end of the carry-on.     • This one really sucks
Just tryed to use it for the first time today and after I got it hooked up I found out that the locking system which is suppose to spring loaded was not so I could not even use it.

    • Looks like it is made to last
This one had gear wheel on both sides that the hand lever engages when you reel in the cable. My old one just had one gear wheel which made the side without a gear wheel fail because of the unequal force on the shaft.

    • Does the Job
I've used this to pull a 2 ton truck onto a car trailer and it didn't break. Keep in mind that it has a 12' cable and a 6' reach.

heavy duty construction, the cables were clean and tight. it is very well made and looks like they actually cared about making it with craftsmenship. the instructions were simple but fairly clear.
