I cut these and put them in the bottom of my propane forge when I want to do some forge welding. Flux is bad for the refractory. When I am finished welding, I pull them out and my forge is still clean. If you do this, make sure you wear a respirator and cut these outside. Ceramic fiber is bad for you lungs and eyes. got a bag with shredded insulation in it. This was in no way a usable mat as shown in the photo. Total waste of money. UPDATE: Lynn Manufacturing reached out to me and apologized for the state the product was in and refunded the cost. They said this was not the condition the product should have been delivered in and may have been returned somewhere down the line. I'm increasing my star rating to 3 for now due to their prompt attention to a customer complaint, and will go to 4 stars if the refund is processed. ... show more

    • The best thing about it is it works.
I used it to insulate my wood pellet hopper from the combustion chamber in my pellet stove. I run it on high with a thermostat. The plastic hopper would get quite warm but now it stays cold. It works better than expected.
