  • 90's look at a great price
This looks great in a 90's vehicle. Buttons are kind of soft looking (not sharp edged modern look), knob feels old school with straight knurling on the edge and no chrome or rubber. I don't use the phone holder, but if you leave it in the unit, it looks kind of like a tape deck, adding to the 90's look. The matte textured black also has that 90's vibe. Contrary to a review I read before purchase, there is a clock. When the unit is off, it displays the time. If you want to see the time while it is on, you just hold the "clock" button until the clock appears. It will stay on for long enough to read it, then goes back to showing what is playing, etc. It would be nice if they added the clock to the rotation of info that is displayed all the time, but I don't really mind the way it is. It would also be better if the clock stayed on permanently when you hold the clock button down, then went back to the info display if you hold it down while the clock is already on the display. The radio function works better than many tuners I've had over the years, including brand names like Pioneer and Sony. It says "ADIO" instead of "RADIO" when you select it, but that doesn't affect the function. The Bluetooth audio function works very well, no complaints there. Connects automatically and reliably, continues where you left of after a restart. On my truck, which is a diesel and requires 10 seconds or so of waiting to start the engine due to glow plugs, the music starts playing where it left off before I start the engine, but after starting the engine it goes into a pause mode. Pressing the play/pause button starts the music again. When the truck is warm and I don't need to wait for glow plugs, it just plays right after starting the truck, which is how it would be for anyone with a gas engine. Really no problem and works reliably. When using Audible to listen to books on tape, it skips words every minute or so. I have encountered this on other bluetooth stereos. I considered taking a star off for this, but I think that this may come down to compatibility between the phone (Samsung S21) and the unit. If I hadn't encountered this ever before, I'd definitely have knocked a star off, but since it hasn't been uncommon, I think there is the possibility that it is at the phone end of things. Just be aware that audio book playback may not work quite right. I can usually hear half of the skipped word and follow along, but it is annoying. Will report back if I find a work around. I have not used the Aux plug, which may be my work around for the Audible problem if I can't get the bluetooth right. Problem with that would be that I can't keep my phone on the charger if I'm using the USBC plug to output audio. Sometimes I drive for 14+ hours on roadtrips, so it is a factor for me at those times. I have not used the USB or card slots for playback either, probably never will. The USB port does provide a medium level of charging for my phone. Definitely not fast charging, but not bad. I'd say double the time to charge of a full fast charge port, which is definitely acceptable. Changing display color is very easy and the green matches my ford dash pretty well, just brighter than the rest. It isn't too bright at night, but would be nice if it had a dimming function when headlights are on. The screen is readable during the day, though living in Seattle I have not yet had intense sunlight on it. Not too worried though based on what I have seen. I have not been able to get the call feature to work right yet. I can make a call or answer a call, both from my phone screen and the stereo buttons. I can hear the person at the other end through the speakers, but they can't hear me at all. I attached the included microphone and I'm going to try taking that off to see if the built in microphone works. I've encountered this problem with other stereos, such as a Sony I recently put into another car, and in my experience it is usually a setting. I will update this review once it works or I have exhausted all possible settings. For now, I took one star off for this problem. If I can fix it, this is a 5 star product in my opinion. If I can't, it ruins an otherwise excellent product and I'll have to knock it down a couple more stars. Making handsfree calls is an absolute must for any stereo these days. All in all, if you are looking for a 90's era replacement stereo with modern features, this is a great option. There aren't many stereos that look right in an early 90's vehicle, but this one fits right in. I don't use all the features but if you just want to use it like an old school stereo that has bluetooth added, it is perfect for that. I suspect that if you are looking for advanced features, you may be disappointed. However, this is a better stereo than the Continental/VDO bluetooth deck. Update: 3/7/23 After a while of not having the phone function working, I removed the remotely wired microphone to see if it would work off the built in microphone. This fixed the problem and even in a relatively loud truck (7.3 IDI diesel), my calls are reasonably clear to the recipients. I do have to talk loudly for them to hear, but it is at least clear and works well. The books on Audible or Google Play still miss words, though I think I am starting to understand why. It seems that the first half a second of any new track, whether in a book or even a song, is cut off. So if you play a song that has an immediate sound like "Animal" by Def Leppard, the first bit is always cut off. Since most songs don't have an immediate sound, you don't notice most of the time with music. On books, segments of chapters can be anywhere from every 30 seconds to every 5 minutes, but at the beginning of a segment the sound is cut off like it would be on a new track of music. Since each book is done with audio starting immediately, that word is either half or completely cut off and you just have to get used to filling in the occasional blanks. I think that if they fixed that, there really isn't anything else about this unit that doesn't work like it should. If you don't listen to books, you will probably only encounter this problem on maybe 1 in several hundred songs and likely wouldn't even realize it happened. If you listen to music or books that are continuous with tracks breaking them up for search purposes, you will notice it a lot. Otherwise, I have had zero problems with this car stereo and would recommend it for people who want to have something that looks 90's but has some decent functionality. I've had worse on much more expensive stereos, this is a good deal! ... show more

  • Great radio, less shiny than advertise and remote control is a joke
Great radio, less shiny than advertise and remote control is a joke. Ive use it to replace original radio on a Miata NB. If you buy this for the remote control, don't. Works only if points directly to the radio. The only value of it is the battery. The app only works with google maps, no waze
