Color: Torpedo Buoy
This Luwint Float Buoy is well designed and has an excellent valve on the top (under a protected black flap) that you can blow more air into whenever you need and it seals automatically and holds the air well. The dive flag is small, sturdy, does the job, and swivels in the wind. The buoy is also a great, durable resting place for two people to clean your mask or catch your breath while on the water. The 70 foot red safety line that comes with it works well, is soft, and appears strong, however the line doesn't float. Other experienced people I have dived with, use a plastic woven line that floats so it always moves toward the surface and doesn't get in your way as much as sinking lines can. It also does not include a float buoy line wrapper, which really is essential to keep the buoy close to you on the surface, so you are visible to boaters, but also to allow you to measure the line that you release to accommodate controlled slack for deeper free dives. You know how deep you're going and what the limits are. So, I also purcahsed a Cressi Floating Line Winder which floats, is neon yellow and is mini size (70 meter or 250 feet of line) and I'll keep using the red line for now, but under control so there's no chance of tangling out on the water. Luwint documents say I will need a source of weight to keep it the buoy flag upright and, after trying without weight and watching the flag capsize, they are spot on. I put a 1.1 pound covered dive weight on the bottom of the float. An easy thing to do because the float has a strong velcro belt, built into the bottom, to strap on weight. That should keep the buoy still light on land but upright on the water. I'll go check.

When I obtained my solo/self-reliant diver certificate, the quarries I visit require a float with my name on it to indicate that I am in the water. I looked for a vibrant, large float to fit that requirement and came across this product. The price was perfect and it sounded impressive and I was surprised when it arrived and how large, sturdy, and vibrant this was and it was perfect for my needs. Easy to use and was very well made and will last me for year. How note, I do not believe the flag itself is large enough to qualify as a 'dive flag' legally, at least not in Michigan, check you local laws, but it's perfect for allowing others to see that you're in that water for areas without boats If you're a free diver or an apnea diver, the handles are perfect for setting you dive or observing your other divers.

Luwint dive buoy is indeed very visible. Flag is not regulation size for majority of waters, so purchased a larger flag, which was very easy to adapt to the existing post, but then became a bit more costly. Post sits in a pocket, so not as secure as I would have liked. Will be drilling a hole through the material and post, to insert a toggle pin or similar device.

Works well, but have a few design problems. The flag and the pvc pipe was a little flimsy. There’s a wire running across inside the stitches of the flag and the tips are very sharp. It could easily scratch or poke someone or even worse poke a hole in the buoy itself when stowing inside. The flag holder itself is not deep enough for the pvc pipe flag holder to go all the way in. On a windy day or when the waves are strong, it could easily pop out. The buoy also loses air overtime, I had to inflate the buoy every 3 days or so. Checked the deflate valve and it didn’t seem like there’s any leaks. Could be faulty stitches somewhere but it didn’t hold air long term.
