  • Works perfectly with Lutron Hub and Logitech Remote
Style: Lamp Dimmer 3-Way
Several months ago, we picked up a Logitech Home Control remote, and decided to try out some of the Caseta dimmers since they're compatible with the Logitech remotes. It's amazing how useful that combination is! Regardless, after going through the downstairs and replacing switches so everything is linked up & automated - I started to find other uses for the system. That's where these Lamp dimmer switches come in. For example, I always work out in our bedroom in the morning - and my wife has been complaining that it smells like a gym. With that in mind, I picked up an air cleaning filter for our bedroom, and hooked it up to one of these lamp dimmers. Then I programmed it through the Lutron Smart Bridge to come on automatically at 1/2 speed in the morning - and to bump up to full speed for about an hour after my workout (once I'm gone to work). It turns itself off automatically. I have it set to a similar program on the weekends, but it starts later so it won't wake us up if we sleep in. The best part is that we don't need to worry about switching anything on or off - and the cord for the air filter can be completely hidden behind a dresser since there isn't any need to ever unplug it. We have another one that's used for a more boring purpose (running a lamp in our living room) - and that works great too. The Smart Bridge & Logitech remote are programmed to automatically turn on the lamp when we're done watching TV for the night, so we don't have to hunt around for the light switch in the dark. It's even smart enough to know not to turn the lamp on during the day! Once you start using these Caseta switches, there are tons of uses for them that make life more convenient and energy efficient; although, they definitely aren't cheap. The Pico remote that comes with this kit is just a bonus. When using the Lutron Smart Bridge, you can hook the remote up however you want - and there isn't any need to link it to this lamp dimmer. In our case, I linked the remote to our bedroom lights so my wife can have a remote on her nightstand for convenience. Here are the things we like about these remotes, switches, and dimmers in general: 1) The dimmers work perfectly with our G7 LED bulbs. The dimming range is excellent, and the switches are adjustable so you can actually set the minimum and maximum dimmer setting to match your bulbs. 2) The Pico remote will pair with one switch; but, if you use it with the Lutron Smart Bridge, you can actually pair a single Pico remote with as many switches as you want (or multiple remotes to the same switch). That makes it possible to do some cool things - like turning off all the lights downstairs with a wall-mounted Pico remote. 3) Once again, when paired with the Lutron Smart Bridge, it's possible to turn lights on and off on a schedule - and the schedule can even be based on the current sunrise and sunset times. This is one of the coolest features of these switches once you start messing around with it! 4) These can be controlled either individually or in groups using the Logitech Home Control remote. 5) These dimmers look great. If I could change just one thing with these, it would be adding the ability to program the on and off buttons of a single switch independently. For example: when I come in from the garage, I want the switch to turn on the hall light; but, when I'm leaving, it would be great if the off button of the same switch could turn off all the lights downstairs instead of just the hall light. Unfortunately, as of now the switches don't offer that much flexibility. If you're just looking for a plug-in dimmer that will work with LED and CFL lights, then there are less expensive options out there that work just as well. If, on the other hand, you're looking to combine this with either the Lutron Smart Bridge or the Logitech Home Control remote (or both), then this is part of an excellent system! I would definitely recommend trying these out. ... show more

  • Best on the market.
Style: Lamp Dimmer 3-Way
We have two bed side lamps in our master suite. I was tired of have to turn off both every night. My dad recommended Lutron, he has them in his entire house. I bought this, plugged it in, and it just works. No hub needed. No WiFi BS. It just works. It gives us an insane level of control over the brightness of both lamps and when it’s time for bed, one button and everything is off. Would buy this 100 times out of 100. Best money I’ve spent this year. ... show more

  • Home lighting annoyances solved
Style: Lamp Dimmer 3-Way
This dimmer/remote combo has helped us solve several lighting problems in our relatively small house. The Caseta plug-in lamp dimmer is a cousin to the Lutron PD-6WCL-WH Caseta Wireless 600-watt Single Pole In-Wall Dimmer. Its internal programming and controls are the same, but it is housed in a plastic case that features two, two-blade polarized outlets. The dimmer can take the bottom plug of a standard duplex outlet (presuming it is installed with grounding slot down). The other physical difference between the lamp dimmer and the wall switch is that the former has a single LED indicator instead of the seven LEDs on the wall switch. Grey plastics for the "lower" and "off" buttons are a nice cosmetic touch. The Pico remote has the same controls and single LED indicator as the lamp dimmer, and adds a domed center button to implement a "favorite lighting level" feature. This remote has a long-life lithium button cell. Lutron says the battery will last for 10 years of ordinary use, and it is easily accessible for replacement. There is a wide slot on the back with a removable cover. This allows the Pico remote to be mounted on accessories that include pedestal stands (single or double) and a wall plate adapter. I think it's essential that you choose one of these mounting options, as the remote on its own is so small that it is easily misplaced. The huge improvement that Caseta features over earlier Lutron electronic dimmers is that it can be "trimmed" by the customer to match different lighting loads. For example, a Maestro eco-dim 600 Watt Single-Pole Multi-Location Dimmer can control incandescent or halogen bulbs. But you need one special version of the Maestro to handle compact fluorescent or LED bulbs, and others exist to control low-voltage magnetic ballast bulbs and low-voltage electronic ballast bulbs. The Caseta dimmer doesn't solve this problem completely, but it should handle any dimmable 120VAC lighting load. As another reviewer noted, it's a good idea to check the Lutron site for approved bulbs, but that's a large and growing list. As for the main problem that this dimmer solved: We have two floor lamps placed in barely-accessible corners of our entertainment room. Turning them on and off was previously a long reach, and of course they did not dim. A fireplace separates the two, so putting them on a single circuit was not an easy way out for us. We added a pair of Caseta dimmers, one at each corner. One nice feature of the Pico remote is that it can control more than one dimmer. So, we "paired" both dimmers to a single Pico remote, which is mounted in a wall plate. We also added LED dimmable bulbs to the floor lamps. The lamps now operate in tandem, and can be set at any brightness level we choose. We own three other Caseta lamp dimmer/Pico remote sets, which are being used to control lamps on three buffet units. Since the outlet is otherwise inaccessible behind each of these large pieces of furniture, this has added enormous convenience and an element of "mood lighting" in the rooms where they are located. I found programming easy and intuitive, and the only irritating aspect for me is that the "favorite" button is ONLY on the Pico remote. It doesn't matter as much in this application, but it still seems like a huge oversight that I wish Lutron would address. I recommend these dimmers highly. ... show more

  • Best "smart" lighting system on market Best "smart" lighting system on market
Style: Lamp Dimmer 3-Way
We love these and have put all our plug-in lamps on them. The Caseta system is definitely the best thing on the market right now for "smart" lighting of homes. We're sort of early adopters and have had Hue and LIFX before and Lutron has the best system. Pros: - Works great with all sort of bulbs - So easy to get pairs of lamps dimmed to same level - Works out of the box & you don't need to configure anything if you don't want to - Awesome with iOS HomeKit scenes and integrates with other HomeKit stuff - Frees up a plug when using a pair of lamps - Extends range of Caseta bridge for larger homes (we have a 3,000 sqft+ ranch-type house and this works great to get caseta to work into the far reaches of our ground floor) - Can add extra remotes so you can attach one near or even on the lamp so your guests or less tech savvy family members can use the lamps as well - Lutron's wireless tech is independent of bluetooth or wifi and works reliably. We haven't had any connectivity issues since we installed the first Caseta dimmer months ago. Cons: - The software to configure scenes and remote control assignments is not great, but you only need to configure once. However, at least for iOS, you don't have to use the software beyond that. I'm attaching screenshots of the Lutron software and how it looks in iOS, the built-in iOS controls are just so much better than Lutron's app. - Only one range extender can be active at a time for the Caseta system. I wish they'd offer something to bridge slightly longer distances (e.g. to a guest house, etc.), perhaps with a WiFi-enable bridge that can relay to other bridges on the network. We have a large outdoor area, and it would be amazing if we could hook up more stuff to the system, like pool lights. I suppose Lutron doesn't want to cut into their profits from their "pro" systems that support multiple range extenders. ... show more

  • Works well in my use-case
Style: Lamp Dimmer 3-Way
I purchased this as a way to control two lamps at once with a remote, but without any internet access. We purchased a Philips Hue bulb+remote in another room, but thought that this kit would work better in our two lamp case, without having to buy two rather pricey Philips bulbs(and replace them if the bulbs die). Included in the small box are the instructions, remote, as well as the dimmer. Plugged both my switched on lamps into this dimmer kit, and tada. This product was fairly simple to setup and start using without internet access. The instructions provide the very easy to follow ways to set it up. It even describes how you can customize the middle button's set preset brightness level. I set it to something fairly dim, as a way to brighten up the room just a little bit, but not all the way, without having to fiddle with the light settings. When turning on and off the lights, the lights will dim in or out, instead of just instantly turning on or off. Please make sure you use a dimmable bulb. We purchased some Cree bulbs to use with this switch, and they seemed to work fine. As for the remote, it's fairly small, which may be a pro or con to some. The small size of this remote means that you can place it inside of the openings of most wall plates without issues. This is unlike the Philips Hue remote which is too big for standard wall plates, but is also a more appropriate sized remote. I purchased some third party wall plates. They fit ok, for the most part. Remote seems to be easy to loose if you're not careful with it. They seem to sell a remote stand as well, however I have not purchased it. From what I have read, you should be able to pair multiple remotes to this dimmer. Overall, it works fine for controlling 2 lamps, while being able to control it in a 'tradition' manner. Have not really had any issues regarding operation - it has always worked. Have not tried the app and such control, since this was primarily purchased for offline control, so I cannot comment on that aspect. Side note: I originally expected to be able to use the buttons on the dimmer switch itself as well, but when I installed it I realized it would not be as easy as I thought, since where the plug is, is actually a bad place to have to keep reaching to press it. ... show more

  • super frustrating. hit or miss on whether the remote will pair with the plug
Style: Lamp Dimmer 3-Way
super frustrating. neither remote worked. I guess it's hit or miss on whether the remote will successfully pair with the plug. I had to troubleshoot to get the one remote to pair, the other one wouldn't pair at all. I suspect I need to replace the battery in the remote, but for $50+ I don't want to purchase a battery just on the hope that that will solve the problem. I've purchased these in stores in the past and they work seamlessly... so I guess maybe the product is usually fine and maybe this incompatibility between remote and plug is specific to Amazon purchases, maybe they sit around too long and the battery dies.
