  • An intriguing curio, but not beginner friendly
This tiny USB miner won't make you rich, but it could be an interesting conversation starter or a cute tech toy to play with. The chances of this thing finding a valid block are near-zero, so it's best to keep your expectations well in check. An experienced miner shouldn't have much trouble setting it up, but beginners face an uphill battle. The printed manual (just a small slip of paper) doesn't tell you much of anything, not even the "MineYourCoins" WiFi key that's required just to start configuring. I had to search the Internet to find that. From there, newbies will need to figure out how to create a wallet and pick a solo pool. Again, the instructions don't help with any of that. Once you do get everything setup, the device is basically plug-and-forget. It only needs power from a USB-A port, no data or interaction from the host device. An old phone charger works fine. The miner does its thing, and hashes slowly accumulate at your selected pool. Maybe you'll get lucky, but probably not. All told, it does what it's supposed to do, but the instructions really must be improved. 3.5 stars. ... show more

  • Not as beginner friendly as I'd hoped
I’m a beginner when it comes to Bitcoin mining, so this was my first experience in that space. I am not, however, new to computers - which is important context, because even with that background, getting this device set up was far more difficult than it should have been. The biggest issue is that the instructions do not adequately explain what is required to start mining at all. There is no clear guidance on essentials like joining a mining pool, setting up a wallet, or understanding how those pieces connect to the device. The first step is getting the unit onto your Wi-Fi, but it also requires mining pool information at the same time. I ended up resetting it repeatedly before I finally pieced together what was needed. The instructions also fail to mention the device password, which is "MineYourCoins." I had to search online and hope that information was accurate. Once connected, I ran into another major hurdle: accessing the backend. The product hints that a backend exists, but never clearly explains how to reach it. Normally I would use the device’s IP address, but it appeared as "unknown" on my network, and none of the unknown IPs led to anything useful. For a product like this, that missing information is a serious oversight. After several days - and with help from a more experienced friend - I finally got everything connected properly. Even then, it took hours before the device showed as fully ready. I understand that the odds of actually mining anything meaningful are extremely low, and I went into this as a learning experience. That said, the setup process did not need to be this frustrating. With clearer documentation and better onboarding, this could be much more beginner-friendly. ... show more

  • Sleek minimalistic educational BTC miner Sleek minimalistic educational BTC miner
So this is the second lucky miner I’ve owned in addition to the LV02 version model. Compared to the other model this one is MUCH more smaller and also has a more dynamic screen that involved scrolling through the various statistics/data. Honestly it’s a much more minimalistic vibe. There is also a yellow rgb light on the back side of the USB. The USB itself is also transparent which gives it a cool futuristic vibe although I would have opted for a more solid material as the transparency makes this small miner feel very fragile. The screen also seems to make this model get a bit more hot than the LV02 model. Setup was easy as the instruction were clear and simple to follow. Overall this is a very fun and cool educational device but don’t expect this to earn any profits as the computing power is much too long and it would take tons and tons and tons of time (multiple lifetimes) to actually get a return. ... show more

  • Too slow for actual mining blocks Too slow for actual mining blocks
So this is a very cute little device. But it isn’t that much fun to use as it is because it only very very slowly tries to mine bitcoin. It will never succeed at mining even one valid block. This device would be a lot more fun if it were easy to flash the firmware so you could use it for something else and for tinkering. As it is you can just watch some numbers on a screen. I would try to hack this, but inexpensive microcontrollers wirh screens are so cheap that I probably won’t bother. Feels like a waste! ... show more

  • Will outlive your Tamagotchi.. and the rest of us. Will outlive your Tamagotchi.. and the rest of us.
As far as novelty miners go, this LV03 isn't a bad choice. The low power USB-A thumb drive miner has a nice form factor, easily to read screen, and a single button interface that makes it simple to reset the device should you need to. The first thing to know is that this is truly and purely a novelty-grade miner. As an educational tool for mining crypto, it might have some value in teaching you how to select a mining pool, but if you've already set-up your wallet to establish your BTC address (a prerequisite of any miner), then the lesson is hardly educational. The screen does publish some interesting mining data - connection, hash rate, even block difficulty and BTC rates - but the size of the text and orientation of the device (most installations will turn the screen sideways) might make this information hard to read. The hash rate is also very low. Yes, you are technically mining in a lottery pool, but at 250KH, it will effectively take about 75 BILLION years to complete a block. Of course, you could get extremely lucky and Forrest Gump your way into completing a block, but the likelihood of that is so low that is is practically incalculable. The next thing you should know is that the instructions are lacking the required information to set up the device. Most critically, the SSID password was not provided. The manual references contacting customer support, but provides no customer support contact information. It is due to the missing password and support information that I give the LV03 only 4 stars. That said, I was able to find a video online for the device that included the SSID password That's not to say that the LV03 doesn't have room to shine. Where it excels first is in its setup. Once I found the missing password, setting-up the device was extremely easy. For those familiar, the setup is very similar to the NerdMiner interface, but it actually works. Better yet, the BTC Address field does not come prepopulated with an address - seems obvious, but I actually really appreciated this. It does come prepopulated with the public pool information, which is perfectly fine, however I switched it to CK pool with no issue. I was happy to see that it connected right away and I was able to verify the additional worker in my account. The settings only allow a single pool listing, so there is no roll back should the pool go offline. At this low hashrate, however, that's really not a big deal. If I lose a day or two over the course of 75 billion years, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to notice. The second place I think the LV03 shines is with its look - particularly if you have multiple miners installed in a usb hub. You can easily create a fun and interesting desktop mining block that just looks cool. Of course it won't really increase your odds of completing a block, but it will look great on your desk. Overall, the LV03 is a fun trinket to have if you want an inexpensive, passive, low-power miner. For safety, I would recommend NOT plugging it directly into your computer. Use an independent hub or power block. The device only needs power - don't risk giving it access to your computer. Similarly, I recommend connecting it to your guest wifi. There is no need for it to exist on the same network as your more critical devices. The LV03 works perfectly fine when it is isolated from your primary network. If you're looking at these types of miners for yourself or as a give, the LV03 isn't a bad choice. You can get it set up and working in seconds and have a mini working chipping away at blocks in no time. ... show more

  • Seems to work, but little instructions Seems to work, but little instructions
This is an interesting device. For me, as a beginner, it's an easy entry point into bitcoin mining. The instructions don't really explain it, but everything is mostly automated once a pool is selected and it's connected to a network. I wish that the printed instructions went into more detail on this. As it is, it seems to be working, though I've yet to actually complete a block. ... show more

  • fun little desktop miner
this usb miner is a pretty cool piece of tech to have on the desk. it’s surprisingly easy to set up with the built-in wifi and the mini screen shows you the hashrate right there. it doesn't pull much power at all, so you can just leave it running on a laptop or a power bank without a huge bill. it’s a neat little device if you’re interested in crypto or just want a tiny mining rig to play around with. ... show more

  • Looks great, better instruction needed Looks great, better instruction needed
Now that I have this little gadget working I like it a lot and I'm a big fan. I will say it needs better instructions because you need to do a lot of outside research to get it working If you're a beginner In mining. It's very small and compact and comes on as soon as you plug it into USB power. The screen is very bright and easy to read. It does come in a nice package that I feel is very giftable it looks quality. For the listing cost I feel like it's a good value For what you're getting. ... show more
