We recently purchased a firm mattress and was instantly regretting it. Sleeping on it a full night was a lot different than the 3 minute test in the store... of course it helped my husband's back which is why we got a firm mattress, but at the cost of our comfort I was not a happy camper. So I did my homework on what type of topper to use that would help the situation taking into consideration sleeping positions, size, etc. I researched many types of pads, down, down-alternative, foam, memory foam, etc. and decided to try a down alternative topper first. Then I did copious amounts of research to find the best reviews and price and finally decided on the LUCID 3 Inch High Plush Down Alternative Fiber Bed Topper, I took it out of the box and let it air out overnight before using it (only a slight odor, but probably wouldn't have been noticed with sheets over it). When I put it on the bed, I was happy to see that the fitted sheet did not flatten it out, but was still able to secure it (the bands on the topper also helped secure it to the mattress). The first night we slept on it was like heaven. It gave us the soft plushness we were missing on our new firm mattress and did not bunch up or flatten down in any areas like other products I reviewed. I've been sleeping on it for about 3 weeks now and when I change the sheets I pop it off and shake it out just to redistribute the areas that do take most of our weight and it's still just as super comfortable and plush. It also stays in place, and when I make the bed, you cannot tell there is any kind of topper on it.. it just looks soft and plushy, but still neat underneath our comforter. I also have not noticed any difference in temperature, and I tend to be a pretty hot sleeper and was concerned it might hold in more heat, but it seems to breathe well. Overall, this is an excellent topper for our needs and I look forward to getting into my bed every night because of it! ... show more

I purchased this mattress pad with a grain of salt. I mean, who buys a pad that is dropped so significantly in price and expect it to be wonderful right? I read all the reviews and took a chance on it anyway. I'm happy I did! Pros: Really well made! I haven't seen this high a quality mattress pad in a very long time. My feather bed ($450) had gotten flat and full of tiny holes that allowed the feathers to stab me and it had redistributed it's feathers so badly that after 2 years of constant use on my memory foam mattress, it was done for. I was hoping to get the same feel but without feathers this time around and in that this, the Lucid mattress pad delivers in spades. For those naysayers that didn't like the lumps and bumps...it's got baffiling people so of course it has high and low spots. It's stitched in place for goodness sake! Just like a feather bed with baffiling has so if you don't enjoy sleeping on that type construction, it's definitely not for you. Its not too fluffy though and with the sheet on tight, it still has plenty of loft. Addressing the "smell" issue...Mine only had a "plasticky" smell for about an hour after I took it out of the package then it was gone. Now all I smell is my Untouchables fabric softener that I use on my laundry. As for the heat trapping issues...I live in Georgia where we sometimes run the AC even in the winter and I'm menopausal to boot (tmi I'm sure!), I can honestly say that even with a light down comforter on my bed, I'm in no way over heated underneath. If anything I'm no longer feeling the clamminess that sometimes happens with my memory foam. I noticed that my sheets are staying on a better too. My mattress is 13" and I've got deep pocket sheets to accommodate 17", they were constantly sliding around and creating wrinkles that were uncomfortable to sleep on. I ordered the Cali King size and it was an exact fit to my bed which is really nice. I was worried when I read reviews stating it ran small but in my case, it's perfect. Con: If you truly hate your mattress, no mattress pad is going to help it in the long run. I think that people need to order any pad knowing this is true so please don't expect miracles. Do expect an enhancement of your sleeping experience. I'll update my review if anything changes. Hope this helps. ... show more

This mattress pad/topper is cushy and soft; you sink into it. After having a posturpedic memory foam topper, which was too stiff for my liking, I found this one to be a welcome change. It's comfortable, and definitely improved our inexpensive, hard mattress.

This pad is very soft and thick enough to eliminate all pressure-point pains that I had suffered from. With this pad I no longer get pains in my hips and back after lying in bed for more than 5 hours. Now I am able to sleep 9 hours without pain waking me. Out of necessity, I have a firm mattress with a layer of gel foam on top; but that still left me in agony after 5 or 6 hours. I added this pad a week ago, and have not had any more of those pains, in spite of resting for 9 consecutive hours on it. ... show more
