    • Works great but don't screw the suction tube in all the way
I purchased this pump for pumping diesel fuel out of a 55 gallon drum. When I received it and assembled it, it didn't work after a LOT of pumping. I contacted Plews and Gatzies (the seller). Gatzies sent me a replacement pump without hesitation. Their customer service folks were great! When I received the replacement pump, I discovered the same issue. Because the pump wasn't working, I decided to disassemble the pump, which gave me the understanding of how the pump worked. In short, I realized that I followed the directions too closely when I assembled the suction tubes and attached it to the pump. In the instructions, they say to make sure that all of the suction tube connections are tight. I did so, including making sure the suction tube was tight in the pump itself. I also then discovered that the threaded portion of the suction tube that screws into the pump is too far, and when screwed in tightly into the pump, it interferes with the check valve that prevents the fluid from draining back into the tank. So, when I put it all back together, I simply screwed the suction tube into the pump, but left about 1/4" of thread exposed. It then pumped great! ... show more

The pump works great, but does not fit 55Gal plastic drum with out adapter.

Not very sturdy but works well. The male threads that go into the 55gal barrel aren't really long enough so we had to trim the plastic lip around the threads so it would drop deep enough. If the barrel wasn't plastic, this pump wouldn't've worked. Right now, it's working for windshield washer fluid. We'll see how long it lasts. Dead. That didn't take long. More garbage in the landfill. We also have the yellow rotary one that we've been using for nearly 10! years. Going to buy another one of those. This thing is short-term junk. ... show more
