  • Not Even Close to Panoptix
I am severely disappointed in Lowrance. I purchased the HDS Live 9 to pair with the LiveSight transducer. First of all, the only way Lowrance designed this to mount on a trolling motor like the Xi5 (which I have), is in the down position. If I primarily was jigging, that might not be the worst thing, but the purpose of my purchase was to look ahead of me and see what I'm coming up on, where bait fish are in the water column prior to the boat, etc. In order to get it in the forward position, you will have to create your own mount or rig something extra on your trolling motor. Brutal design. When mounting, you are only able to put the transducer in a single position: down or forward. Anyone who has seen the Garmin Panoptix transducer knows that you can simply click it in to different positions for forward or down. Another big flaw for Lowrance. Now to talk about on the water performance. First of all, I noticed a fairly perceptible slow down in the processing time while using the active imaging transducer in tandem with LiveSight. My down imaging was having issues using the auto depth scaling and kept flipping between two ranges. Once I removed the LiveSight transducer and restarted the units, this behavior ceased. Second, the range is complete trash. One purpose I had in mind for this was to point the transducer behind the boat to look at depths of baits in the water column while trolling. I have seen this done on Panoptix and it works beautifully. What I noticed is that, beyond 20 feet, you barely register anything, and that was using fairly sizable baits for musky in the 8-10" range. For me, if I can't get at least 80 ft. of discernible image, then what am I paying $1000 for? This is likely the most disappointed I have ever been on any purchase of any kind. Having seen Garmin Panoptix in person, I know what the possibilities are. For Lowrance to fall this short and still release the product is shameful and disheartening. I have been a loyal Lowrance customer, but I really want to demand a full refund on both the transducer and the 9" HDS Live I bought a few months ago to pair with this when it released. Please, if you are looking for live sonar, do yourself a favor and get Garmin Panoptix, or wait a few years. Not ready for prime time, period. ... show more

  • Unit Design
I Recently purchased the Hook2 7" . Used it at night and the buttons are not illuminated. very disappointed with this lack of a feature. I have 2 much older units that the buttons are lighted. In the product description it dose not reveal that. Can't see them at night .
