I installed two of these and they are both working great after about 1 month of use. The valves shutoff fully when the bucket is full. I did make some modifications where I drilled a hole to add a drain and I replaced the rubber hose with a braided stainless steel hose.

The plastic coupling leaks and leaks. I have put thread tape on it, it still leaks. I wish they wouldn't use these plastic fittings. I used to have some and they didn't leak at all. Maybe the company should go back to that design. Other than the constant leaking it works well.

This automatic waterer is made of solid plastic, has a flotation device that auto refills as your dog (or cat, as the case may be) drinks. To maintain cool water, you will need to keep the hose feeding the waterer cool, so bury it under dirt or mulch. Otherwise animals will not use it as readily. I put mine in the shade, so far, no algae and it stays full of cool water. Our dog was on the streets for a while before she adopted us. She tends to stick her whole face in while drinking, hence "bucket-mouth". We got her a kiddie pool for that reason, but it was cumbersome to empty and refill. I love this one because it's automated and easy to clean. She loves it because, well, her WHOLE face fits in the container. We tried the metal ones, but they are less of a favorite.

This has a place you can connect the hose from either side. Problem is the side you do not connect to pours water, my yard is a muddy mess. I would think it would have come with some type of plug for the side you do not use. The dogs love it and never run out of water but they and my yard is one big muddy mess. Self troubleshooting doesn't help. I guess I will look for something I can plug the hole with. But not sure what. Update the hose always leaks and is now broken. can't drain it to clean without taking it off the fence. would not buy again.

Have two dozen Wish they made a drain plug to make cleaning easier. These work great though! My horses love them.
