  • An interesting tool
Style: Black+RST+MODE
Handy device and easy to use. I found an improperly factory set RPM and was able to fix it quickly.

  • Affordable, convenient, and accurate enough.
Style: Black+RST+MODE
When compared to an official Stihl tachometer at a certified Stihl repair shop, this tachometer was roughly accurate for lower RPM’s (~2,500-3,000), but inaccurate for higher RPM’s (8,500-9,500). At the higher RPM’s the tach seemed to either cut the RPM’s in half, or show them as being 1,000-2,000 too low. This was during use on a 2-stroke Stihl KombiEngine, and with the option for 2-stroke being selected on the tachometer. It was also for both the induction and physical clamp modes of the tachometer. I liked the ease of use provided by the clamp and induction measurement. Had the device been accurate I would have kept it. The price at ~$16-17 would have been great for an accurate and dual mode tachometer. I didn’t test for RPM’s over 9,500, nor test it on other engines. Addendum: On further testing at home against a Hardline tachometer with the same KombiEngine, my suspicion that this tachometer was being affected by the KombiEngine “rev limiter” was confirmed. As both tachs started providing inaccurately low readings as the engine approached its max RPM of 9,500. It may be that they are semi-accurately reading the pulses to the spark plug, which with a rev limiter and engine running at max RPM would be less than the actual engine revolutions per minute. Based on this, the usefulness of the wired clamp that I can also use with the Hardline Tach (a similar clamp would cost $6-7 by itself), and that this tach was accurate enough in induction mode, I’ve decided to keep it and have cancelled my return. Seems it may come in handy as an induction tach, and as a secondary tach for RPM validation purposes. In that case I’d say it’s worth the $16-17. I have not tested it for RPM’s over 9,500. I minus one star for the instruction shortcomings and the lag in RPM reporting relative to the Stihl and Hardline tachs. ... show more

  • Don’t be too close or too far from the spark plug wire! About two inches will suffice!

  • Loved it, so I bought two.
Style: Black+RST+MODE
I repair my own lawn equipment at home. So, I needed one of these in my tool box. Small, lightweight, very accurate, and easy to use. The screen is easy to read to identify your engine speed. Comes in the box already set for a twin engine, which was what I needed. Absolutely the right purchase for the money. ... show more

  • better than nothing I guess
Style: Black+RST+MODE
Gives weird readings and randomly doubles (eg goes from 2100 RPM to 4200 and back). . If you know what your engine SHOULD run at (eg 3600) you know which of the two numbers to use. It's the same with the cord or without. Better than nothing, but I would not describe this as accurate by any means

  • Junk inaccuracies not worth it
Style: Black+RST+MODE
Bought to read RPMs on an outboard 2 stroke boat engine to gauge whether I’m in operating range to go up or down in prop size and said at WOT I was at 9000rpm which is way off. My engine would grenade if so. Definitely not very accurate. Used on a chainsaw as well. Idle seemed right at 1500-2000rpm and free rev should be at 13500rpm and it said max rpm was 6000rpm. Definitely not accurate I do not recommend this. Spend the extra and buy a tusk with better setting capabilities. This is junk and waste of money ... show more
