Description

He didn’t log in to be a Hero, or go on a grand adventure. He logged in to survive. On the brink of death, a burned-out late-thirty-something is offered one last chance at life through experimental early access to a full-dive VRMMO. The price is simple: he can’t log out. When the system sends him into the world years before launch, he becomes something no developer planned for: a seemingly permanent inhabitant, living inside the game long before players arrive. While future adventurers dream of fame and leaderboards, he chooses a quieter path. He claims land in the mountains, learns the patient craft of blacksmithing, mines deep veins of ore, and finally builds a life with his hands instead of slowly dying behind a desk. For a long while, the world is his alone. He carves out the beginnings of a life for himself, begrudgingly makes a few friends, and finds a purpose. Then players begin to appear. To the first of their number, he’s just a strange NPC with skills that shouldn’t exist yet. He doesn’t correct them. He would very much like to just be left alone.Unfortunately, the world has other plans. Read more

  • Buy this book!
Format: Paperback
Amazing book. If you liked mining and crafting in games you will love this book. The characters are fun and I felt invested in their journey. This is well worth a read. Great job to the author.

  • An excellent concept well executed
Format: Kindle
From dying to a new life, this novel follows Brandt on his journey. I loved that the NPCs worshipped the AI. I didn’t love the scene where she discusses the beta - her ignorance felt unlikely given how communicative she had been until then. Teddy is hilarious. I’ll read book 2 when it releases!

  • A bit misleading
Format: Kindle
Overall this book was well written and interesting. But know up front that the description is a bit misleading, at least for this book. The description claims that other players think the story's Main Character is just a strange NPC ... but there are no other (true) players in this entire book. The book is entirely build up of the MC as he finds his place in this new world. Conceptually out tries to be a slice of life with detailed crafting (especially smithing) descriptions and fairly broad strokes fight scenes. There's not much in the way of conflicts or true opposition to the MC as if yet. There are only a few minor continuity things (MC fills his inventory, then goes to a new location and is able to collect more new things and suddenly his inventory is "almost full"). Also, punching is notoriously ineffective underwater; a sword capable of thrusting would, in fact, but much more serviceable. Consider Spear fishing and the shape of harpoons. The introduction of 'players' to the world in the next book is bound to add some chaos to the formula. ... show more

Can't wait for next book! Non-stop, read it in one day. Great character development. Loved that he chose being a dwarf fighter.

  • FANTASTIC
Format: Kindle
A very good read. Was deep onto it quickly. Mid to fast pace. Great main character. Will definitely read a book 2.

  • Fun, low stakes litrpg with a focus on crafting
Format: Kindle
This was a nice change of pace. It has been awhile since I enjoyed a full-immersion game world. But this book scratches that itch. I am hoping for more entries in this series.

  • Great book and Even Greater Author
Format: Kindle
Had a great time at LitRPG and was glad to meet you. Your book was great fun and excellent with the Solo/Character development. Love the companions as well as the blacksmith aspect.

  • Dodges and hits way too much with low agility.
Format: Kindle
I like the story, and yes, its fiction fantasy, but the MC should really have a 20 or 25 agility for the dodging and the ranged beaning he does with rocks. Sorry, it just irritates me that he wears basically no armor and even by game logic would have decent agility to avoid damage... Also, there is no dex, so I would guess agility would help in accuracy in striking? Or even in his crafting? Sorry, it just disrupts emersion for me that he is built like an armor tank stats wise, but combat flows like a dodge tank. whether you look at mmo, paper and pencil, or even real life, the book requires a lot of suspension of disbelief because of the build. ... show more
