I was looking for a lightweight ferro rod to replace the knockoff brand cheaper ones that I've been using over the years for backpacking and hunting. After reading some professional users reviews I chose the Light My Fire brand and could not be happier. The amount of sparks this thing produces with ease compared to cheaper options is unbelievable. I was worried this would be too small but when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised and for me it's the perfect size. It's compact and lightweight but not flimsy or small. This will be the only ferro rod and striker combo I buy from now on.

I teach Outdoor living skills to 4th through 12th grade students. Other fire starters are difficult to grasp Once kids understand to put their thumbs in the indentations they can make nice big sparks. Contains no magnesium bar to shave, so I use with dryer lint or tampon innerds as my tinder. Younger kids need a nice big chunk of lint (like fist sized). With practice I can light a fire in two to three swipes.
