These are very easy to use. They take three AAA batteries and are very easy to stick up wherever you want. The downside: they are very, very bright! Don’t put them where they will be shining in your eyes! Also: if you forget to turn them off the batteries run down quickly ( all that brightness?).

I don't know what happened to one of them. Another has been in a closet (with no overhead light) for several years—it just gave up today, a decade after purchase. A third is inside a cupboard door and is used occasionally when I need light but don't want to use the overhead, and it was still working a couple of nights ago. (I have to be careful, because that one is at eye level and all of them are super bright.) Whatever adhesive they used for the bases in 2013 is very good—they stuck where they were placed and you can twist off the battery door (where the sticky is) if you want to hold the light in your hand to find something specific. I just ordered three more and can only hope they hold up half as well! ... show more

I used these in a custom closet build-out that I crafted because they were cheap and I figured if I could get away with using something cheap that didn't require me to run new electrical all over the place, I should -- since I don't use the lights in this situation much anyway. PROS: - Cheap - Works well - Good light if you don't use it a lot - Easy to install CONS: - Cheaply made - Light dims quickly - Falls off of surfaces that aren't perfectly smooth - Sucks battery juice quickly Bottom line is, I would buy these again. They work well, and as advertised only require a gentle tap to turn them on and off. I also like them because I can use them situationally -- for example, if I only want them on in the top center tie box and the two sides, plus only the top rack in the shoe rack, I can do that, instead of turning the whole system on. If I only want to leave the tie box light on for atmospheric light at night, I can do that instead of getting blazing light coming out the closet. If I want to see the whole bloody thing lit up, it's gorgeous, but I don't leave it like that for very long. The lights are bright -- at the beginning, for the first maybe 20 hours of use. The next 40, they're considerably dimmer. After that, they're specks of light. I'm still trying to burn out a puck, and it hasn't died yet (well over 100 hours at this point) but I can barely see it anymore. They also mount easily, with a circle of double-stick foam tape in the back -- problem is, it's not a high strength tape and if you're mounting it to a surface that isn't completely smooth, the whole puck will fall off once in a while. I solved that problem by using strips of a high-strength mounting tape. If they fall off and hit the ground though, the housing will crack -- and can be superglued back together easily. One trick I learned is to rotate the lights. They have a bottom mounting surface, and then the actual puck light mounts onto that by inserting and twisting. As the lights you use most dim out, just twist them out and replace them with the ones that you barely use, and you'll maintain brightness where you want it for longer. I also maintain a few battery chargers, so once in a while when the lights start getting dim, I throw them in the charger and replace them with fresh ones. Constantly buying new AAA's would be prohibitive. You can also color the lights, like an oldschool color filter, to get a warmer light. I tried it with a thick orange sharpie to get a warmer color temperature, but eventually I just scrubbed it off because I liked the look of the cooler color temperature better (in the picture). You also need very even coverage with no darkened lines or it'll show up in the beam. These lights are cheap, but they work for what I need them to do, are easily replaceable, and I will buy these again. ... show more

I bought these lights in silver to use under my kitchen cabinets, knowing that they probably would not be super bright. But for the price, I was willing to give the a try. I actually got three 3-packs. Had enough batteries for three lights. Installed those under the main cabinet where I needed light, turned them on, and voila! Let there be light! It's still fairly early in the day so I'll have to wait until dusk to really enjoy the difference but I can tell already that they are going to give me the light I needed. I put three of the lights under cabinet that is about 28" wide. Two lights probably would not be enough. When looking at the cabinet from a distance I see the lights but they are not bad looking. When standing in the kitchen and working, they are barely noticeable (don't really see the lights themselves) because they have a fairly low profile. I'm pretty sure that as the natural light in the house dims, these little lights will provide a nice ambiance. At night we usually turn off the lights around the house except for the room we are in, but I do turn on the light over the stove on its low setting. Now I will prefer to have one or two of these little tap lights on instead. Even though I don't have enough batteries for all 9 of these little lights at the moment, I was able to install all of them because the main unit easily twists loose from the attached base - about a quarter turn to remove and reconnect. So it will be easy to remove them, install the batteries and reattach when I buy more batteries. I had my eye on a strip of small lights that can be aimed independently and are designed for under cabinets, but I was concerned about the wiring - wasn't sure if it was to complicated to do myself. So I got these because a) they are battery oeprated, b) they are decent looking, and c) they are relatively inexpensive. I logged on now to order three more 3-packs but the price is actually $3 more than when I just bought these a couple days ago so I'll wait and watch for the lower price again!
