I purchased the 500XL to replace a Lezyne 400XL. The 400XL lasted 6+ years, almost the lifetime of 2 rear Bontrager tail lights. The 400XL endured numerous bike spills and was notably scratched but continued to provide excellent lighting. On a couple of occasions, the rubber cap covering the charger fell off, but apparently survives being run over by an auto. I use this light primarily on flash mode when riding during the day, and find that it significantly improves my visibility. The rubber strap on the new 500XL is very tight, as new, on my handle bars but stretched sufficiently to become a better fit. I love this headlight! It is so easy to use and the soft rubber band doesn't scratch my handlebars on my Trek bike. I was a little leery of how bright this would be. Something this small at this price point with only one LED usually indicates a dimmer light. Not so! I put this on high and the entire road immediately lit up in front of me. In fact it was too bright for oncoming cars on the high setting. I bumped it down to the next setting and it was perfect. If I had any issue that I would pick at, it would be the odd USB plug in. (See the pics). You pull the rubber cap off and it has a male USB connector sticking out. The entire unit then plugs into any USB charger. The issue is that it sits on top of the charger and because it's not flexible at all, you must have enough room around the charger for it to fit. This really is nitpicking a bit and I've had no issues with it. It could even be a positive as there is no cord to lose. If you are debating on whether you should get this light for nighttime road riding like I did, don't. You'll be very happy with it. I am! ... show more

I had a Lezyne 350 that wouldn't hold a charge after a few years. I tried a couple of the cheaper front lights but was dissatisfied with the lack of options and the mounting brackets, so I returned them. I still don't know why this is a "Hecto Drive", but recognize that the light is reliable, holds a charge and has a simple mounting system that does not interfere with biking. Yes, it is more expensive than the cheaper front lights, but I expect it to last longer. ... show more

This lights up the road enough for me to see what's ahead. It has different light modes from High to low and strobe. To removed it you have to unhook the strap or unscrewing it.
