  • Works VERY well!
The media could not be loaded. This little aerator is amazing!! If you view the attached pictures and the short video, the first picture IS an aerial picture of the pond we were working with. I am a pilot and was able to get this picture. After some brainstorming, we devised a way in which to mount the solar panel and the air pump so that it could be in the middle of the pond to maximize coverage with the small aerator stones. NOTE: I did end up purchasing extra long air hose because the length that came with the kit were really quite short... while for a smaller pond the amount that came with it would probably be sufficient. As you can see in the second image, I mounted a 12" square piece of 3/8" plywood to a piece of 2" foam insulation using construction adhesive. We made the foam square it is mounted on approximately 24" square... giving it enough buoyancy and stability. If you zoom in on the image, I used a couple picture hanging hooks where I tied approx 50 feet of #36 Tarred Bank line to each hook (one on either side) so that we could position the floating system to face south to maximize solar output. With the help of a few friends, we were able to deploy "Aerator Island" keeping the stones (which I 2, 25-foot lengths of tubing (one for each aerator stone). Then, once Aerator Island was out far enough, I tossed each stone toward the direction we had hoped would be the most effective. You can see in the short video the bubbles that already started to show up. After only about 30 minutes time, the pond was opened up over 50%!! NOW... AS A CAVEAT... shortly after we deployed this, the wind did start to kick up a bit, which, after the bubbles opened up the hole in the algae, the wind LIKELY assisted in breaking up even morfe of it and then blowing it to the one side (you can see where the algae blew to toward the top of image 5.) Also, as circled in Image 6, only one of the stones was working.. creating the air bubbles. We are not sure, but we believe the other either got a kinked hose or it, possibly, got stuck in some deeper, softer muck that may be preventing the air flow, so we're suspecting that the one that was working could have been outputting more air if the other side was clogged. We could have taken the thing out and redeployed the one air hose, but since we knew we'll have to take the whole thing out in a few weeks for winter, (to keep from freezing), we'll just redeploy it a bit more carefully and will likely position the hoses to the left and to the right if you look at image 1 which shows the actual shape of the pond. We feel that if this works even half as well as it looks like it may be... we'd be VERY happy to purchase a second one so they can split the duties. The real test will be next spring/summer to see how much the algae is prevented from forming at all! ... show more

  • Works great!
Although the primary marketed purpose of this is for ponds or other outdoor uses, I got this for use in a 30 gallon fish tank. During certain times of the year, major storms can knock out power, sometimes for days and anyone with an aquarium can tell you, that can kill your fish. I've had battery powered pumps for air stones in the past that take big D cell batteries but the problem is, you'll never know quite when you'll need it or for how long and once, when i did need it, the batteries had gone bad from sitting hooked up for so long. Something you have to keep an eye on like that makes it less likely to fail in a situation like that and replacing half a dozen D cells for something that just set idol the whole time the last batch were in kind of stinks. With that in mind, I turned to this setup and although it took a little creativity to make it appropriate for indoor use, so far I'm not disappointed. The solar panel itself is the entire power solution. It has a battery that the panel charges during daylight hours inside it so that it can continue to run through the night. I has the power switch for turning it on and off as well as adjusting the working modes. A single cable from it runs to the air pup with the hoes going from there to the air stone or stones, depending on if you want to hook up. both or rely on one. Due to this being primarily intended for outdoor use, it came with stakes to attach to both the panel and the pump to secure them in the ground. It was easy enough to position the panel in a southern facing window to get enough light to charge but the pump, is not of a shape or design to really sit on anything. laying it on any surface, the vibration resonates quite loudly. My solution was to wrap it in a mouse pad with a couple of rubber bands around it, leaving the ends exposed and to then sit it under the fish tank in the stand with the power cable and air hose going out a hole in the back. with the cabinet door to the stand closed and the mouse pad reducing the vibration, it can't be heard over the filter when near the tank. Given my usage is a little edge case for what this was intended, I can't knock it for me having to put in a little extra effort to make it work. I'm just happy that now, regardless of what happens to the power, the fish in my tank can ride out the effects of a heavy storm, probably better than I can. ... show more

  • Works great
This Lewisia 8W Solar Air Pump Kit came with two air stones, a regulator, the air pump, air tubing, and solar panel. The installation instructions are easy to follow. The solar panel can be attached to either stake or can be screwed on a surface. The panel is also adjustable so you can tilt it whichever way is needed. This was quickly tested and seems to work just fine as of now. It does have three different modes for strong bubbles, gentle bubbles, and an on/off mode for 10 seconds each. It is handy since it also has a built-in battery so no worries about it stopping at night. ... show more

  • Only one bubbler works well
I was very excited to try this because it helps my plant cutting grow roots like nothing else. I charged the panel a full day before I set everything up. One of the stones bubbles like crazy and the other stone barely bubbles at all. I need both to work great because my cutting bowl is very big. I'm hoping it will catch up soon. ... show more

  • Could be more powerful
Pump kit came with two air-stones slightly larger than a quarter and about 1/4 inch thick. You have to look closely to see the bubbles. The solar panel is huge by comparison. I held off reviewing until it had been on 24 hours to see if it got any more robust. No change really. The pool has the bubblers and a solar fountain. I’ll be looking to add some kind of filtration device and hopefully add a couple water plants. ... show more
