This lever action barrel pump is so much more convenient to use than simply manually syphoning the water out of an emergency water barrel. I unscrew the cap, screw this lever pump into place, and start pumping. It comes with an screw-neck adapter for 1.5" to 2" bungs and you can fit hose adapters for various purposes. It functions smoothly for the liquids that it's rated for, and is a very good value at this price point. I am satisfied with this lever-action barrel pump and am glad that I found it.     • A good barrel pump for metal barrels, plastic barrel requires an adapter
This barrel pump works just fine. It self primes and does not leak when pumping. The parts are easy to assemble in a few minutes. the pickup that goes into the barrel is telescoping and does not leak air defeating your pumping action as I was concerned it might. The pump fits standard metal barrels but is does not fit plastic barrel bungs. I have not found an adapter yet and so, I have to remove it from my barrel after using it as it does not fit securely to keep out debris. Otherwise it is a good bargain with now metal to metal parts and works OK for gasoline as far as I can tell. Update: I did find an adapter here on Amazon and now this works just great. ... show more

I thought this would fit my 50 gallon drums that I use for rainwater storage, but unfortunately the threads do not extend far enough to get past the flange on the drum opening. Also, it would be great if you could attach a garden hose to the opening. I think I can get past both of these issues if I can find the right adapters, but until then it's not much use to me. I was able to just hold it in place to test the pumping function and that works fine. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. We purchase methanol race car fuel in a 55-gallon drum and then transfer the fuel to 5-gallon containers for transport to the track in our trailer. We have used a variety of methods for getting the fuel from the big drum into the small containers with disappointing results. The issue is that methanol race fuel is mildly corrosive and will damage most drum pumps that have steel, cast iron, or aluminum parts. This TALFIT pump, however, is listed in the Amazon description as being able to accommodate corrosive materials. It does not specifically state that methanol is something that it can successfully pump. But I still think that it will get the job done for us. The body of the pump is made from Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) which has resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including acids, bases, and solvents. These characteristics should allow the pump to last while being exposed to methanol. I have not yet had a chance to use this to actually pump from our methanol drum. I did test it out, however, on a five-gallon bucket of water just to see how it performed. When I started pumping, water was leaking around the shaft at the top of the pump. But I tightened the nut and the leak stopped. No big problem there, just be aware if you have the same problem. It pumped the bucket out pretty quickly and it was pretty easy to pump the lever.     • Thread Doesn’t Fit 55-Gallon Drums
The threads on this pump do not fit a standard 55-gallon drum, making it impossible to secure properly. It wobbles during use, causing leaks and wasting time. If you're looking for a pump that works with a 55-gallon drum, this is not it.

    • Moves a high volume of fluid
This barrel pump surprised me when I realized it moves a very high volume of whatever liquid you put it in. I have in in a 55 gal drum of fuel and it can fill a 5 gallon jug in 40 seconds. I could see this being really great for us with a rain barrel to water your garden. It's easy to use. It sucks quickly and at high volume. Mine showed no leakage at all. ... show more

Got this for rain barrels and garden use. Have not used very much but everything seems to be working well right now. The quality seems good. Based on other reviews I made sure to check all the seals and tightened everything good and had not leaks yet. Overall I think it is a pretty good solution for the price.
