  • Great guitar to build!!
Color: DIY TL LJ
Ok, so this review is probably gonna be a little on the long side lol. I got this guitar with the plan to just paint it, and put it together using everything that came with the kit. MAYBE swap tuners. Buuuuuut I kinda got carried away. For finishing the body, I used automotive products. Firstly, one 11oz. can of gray Duplicolor filler primer, then two 8oz. cans of Duplicolor Inferno Red Metallic paint, then one 11.8 oz. can of Spraymax 2k high-gloss clearcoat. I used the entirety of each can on the guitar, I could probably have made do with less, but I wanted the finish to be nice and thick. (Which it is.) I wet-sanded and buffed the last layer of clearcoat. The only thing I would do different, is next time I'd start by filling the grain with a dedicated grain-filling product, as after a few months of curing it shows through a little. But not bad. I finished the neck with Stew Mac vintage amber lacquer, with a few coats of Minwax clear lacquer on top of that. It looked really nice, BUT because the color was in the lacquer itself, every time it got a little ding you'd see the bright white wood through it. If I was to do it again, I would STAIN the neck, then put clear lacquer on it. I ended up getting a neck with a rosewood fretboard off the web, and I'll use this neck in a future project after re-doing it. I will say, I was able to shape the headboard on the neck that came with the kit to a pretty fair imitation of a real Tele, I'll put that in the pictures. For pickups, it got a set of Boostrap Palo Duros. They are hand-wound, high quality, and very affordable. They sound really really nice, and they cover the exact same ground as the Fender Pure Vintage '64s at a fraction of the price! And the Fender's aren't even hand wound. For other hardware, it got Wilkinson Deluxe split shaft tuners, the string trees that came with the kit, CTS 250k pots, Oak Grigsby 3-way switch, Pure Tone full contact output jack, cloth wiring, the bridge that came with the kit, Guyker compensated saddles, no-name decorated switch plate (that turned out really nice!), Kaish pickguard and Elixir strings. (Highly recommend those strings, best I've ever played!) Then I leveled and polished the frets, set the nut height, and did an overall setup and now it plays and sounds like a dream! And, best of all, there's no other guitar in the world like it. It's undeniably, 100% no-doubt-about-it mine, through and through. The whole build was a very rewarding process, I recommend it to anyone with the patience lol. I hope this helps someone out there, and good luck with your build! ... show more

  • Good kit, decent guitar for the price
Color: DIY TL LJ
The good: Mostly easy to assemble for a first timer, instructions are clear. No issues in connecting the wiring, and setting up truss rod and intonation. Bridge pickup output is good. Looks nice after assembly. The bad: Neck pick up barely works (reason for 4-star rating), bridge pickup wiring hole is a bit tight, but got the wire through with some patience and persistence. Stock strings are garbage. Bridge pickup is kind of harsh, but cutting the treble with the tone knob and adding an EQ pedal with some good stings seems to take care of it. Modifications: Stained the body with a gel stain (“Mocha”) and oiled the neck. Threw out the stock strings and put on D’Addario 10|46s. Replaced the strap too. Will replace the pickups at some point. ... show more

  • Pretty good quality for the price.
Color: DIY ST LJ
Nice for the price. The action was high so it did needed to adjust the nut height for all strings but setup didn't take too long and I was able to set intonation. The neck fit to the body was tight the way it should be. The pickups aren't the best but do sound good.

  • So easy to build! Be prepared to file the nut.
Color: DIY TL LJ
This guitar was very easy to build, and a lot of fun! A note for any new builders, I needed to file the nut, it was nearly unplayable until I did so. Since it is a cheap plastic nut, I got good results with an x-acto knife. After that, it was very playable. I didn't even need to adjust the truss rod, though your results may vary. The bridge pickup is ceramic and the poles are all at the same height. Entirely expected at this price point. Sounds fine as it is, though I plan on upgrading it bit by bit. It also has a more vintage, thicker neck, which took a little getting used to. I may sand it down as time goes on. For the price, it's definitely worth it. I love the mahogany body, which was a selling point for me. ... show more

  • For a cheap, kit guitar it is acceptable.
Color: DIY ST LJ
As-is, you will never get a serious musical instrument from a cheap kit. What you get is a tutorial in how to assemble an electric guitar, complete with all the parts and instructions, and an end product you can hang on your wall if you assemble it neatly. But the pickups, wiring harness, tuning pegs, possibly the bridge, and probably the neck all have to be replaced if you want something reasonable (also, if it is a Gibson or Epiphone style, they are likely to botch the neck angle, which will mean it can't be set up correctly). Having said all that, kits sometimes have a good hunk of wood, which is why I bought it - I wanted a cheap Strat style body and hardware for experimentation. In this kit, the body was correctly machined. Because it was pseudo-mahogany, it was already sealed. This is convenient if you want to paint or glaze it. Also, the bridge was ok. As cheap kits go, it was not bad so 3 stars, with the above caveat about cheap kits. ... show more

  • Great fun no matter what your skill level.
Color: DIY TL LJ
What a fun project. I drilled for thru body, much better tuning stability and intonation. I also changed the bridge saddles to 70s strat style (needed slight drilling to accommodate, not pictured), added locking tuners and a brass nut. Looks good with the DR neon greens in 9s. Needed minimal fret work. I can live with the electronics…..for now, but WILL upgrade soon. Plays comparable to my MIM Strat for a fraction of the cost. Maybe a total of $200 in the end with upgrades. Will definitely purchase another kit, way too much fun not to!!!!! ... show more

  • No instructions.. holes not cut “perfectly”
Zero instructions, there is a video on YouTube but not the easiest to decipher, kinda like “plug this here, put that there” either way I got it built. Not the greatest sounding guitar but for the money I guess you get what you get. Fun little project putting it together, just make sure you ground it properly through the bridge inserts. ... show more
