  • Great Guitar to Learn to set up on!
Color: Purple Burst
For a lower priced guitar I give this five stars. This is the first guitar I have purchased. At first I was disappointed because it didnt play well out of the box. It needed new strings, properly intonated, and adjust action to preference. And a slight adjustment to the neck. All the videos I have seen on reviews and such. Thats not unusual for this price range. Only problem I have with that is it’s marketed to beginners, who typically don’t know how to set they’re guitar up or even that they need to. I can’t speak on components and how they will last yet. But it is pretty to look at, sounds decent once set up. And isnt a major purchase. So if you’ve got the gaf to learn how to set it up, this isnt a bad purchase. I do however wish it came with a case! Or a case bundle option! Hint hint* or possibly a alil print out of how to check intonation/action/neck relief. Cause the benefit to a cheap guitar is your less afraid to touch it. So alil beginner how to manual, some might appreciate. ... show more

  • Fantastic guitar for an amazing price.
Color: US Flag
This is the guitar I wanted from Sears when I was a kid. Looks great, Plays great, stays in tune. I had spent the night practicing on a Gibson LP Std, and a PRS MCcarty, then this arrived and the happiness continued. The intonation was a tiny bit out, but it tuned right up, and the patch I had loaded had it growling hard rock immediately. The surprise was switching to a smooth sound, backing off the tone and it produced a creamy, warm jazz tone that cost me an hour of my life exploring. I have a set of P90 humbucker pickups coming for this guitar, but I am going to buy another one to see what more I can get from these with other mods. With the price of even Epiphones going through the roof, I would happily recommend Leo Jaymz guitars to anyone looking for a first guitar, or anyone looking to mod, or anyone just wanting a great looking guitar that plays well. The neck, and the rest of it, look and feel like my 1967 Teisco, which is a good thing, as those are great cheap guitars too. The pickups are slightly microphonic, but much tamer than the antiques, and much clearer. It will need to be restrung and some fretboard oil applied, and the frets buffed. as they are very scratchy out of the box from sitting and shipping. ... show more

  • The whole Guitar for the price of a pickup
Color: White
Actually this isn’t a terrible guitar. Where the neck meets the body could use some refinement. Like all guitars in this price range it could use a setup but not bad out of the box. I replaced the strings immediately. The pickups are ok. The tuners are no brand but they do the job. The toggle switch is nice and firm and the knobs feel good. The neck is a C shape and a little thick. The body of the guitar has some weight to it. Can you learn guitar on this without being too frustrated, yes you can. The finish is nice and smooth but it’s not a $3k guitar either. I’ve had fun messing around with it. Hey, for the price buy one and mod it out. I gave it four stars because of price and the fun factor! ... show more

  • Great guitar / great price!
Color: Black
All I can say is wow!! I've read a lot of reviews, many picky, and negative. They must be really hard to please because the SG that arrived to me is really great. It's finish is a beautiful black with a black pickguard with white piping. The keys seem to have a bit of play but tune easily enough and are well mounted to the head. The strings are like any guitar shop standard strings of one hanging on the wall. Most everyone changes them when they bring the guitar home anyways. The pickups actually produce a good tone; you can tell the difference from the neck and bridge sounds , the volume and tone knobs work well and have a noticeable control over the sound. All in all, for the price you get well more than you pay for. As for packaging the original box is well fitted to the guitar so that it is protected from shipping to stocking to delivering to opening up your gift to you. I'd recommend this for anyone that wants to add to their collection or starting one. Buy it, try it, you'll like it. Unless you're a self proclaimed guitar build expert like some of the other reviews present themselves. I'm just a long time player and I cannot find anything to complain about the Leo Jaymz SG guitar. I was a bit annoyed by the delivery being placed out on my front steps, when my directions are to bring any packages around to the covered back deck. I guess some people can't read; right Louis...especially a package that is large and looks like there may be a guitar in the box and it says so on the outside of the box. We all have to watch for porch pirates. Delivery Drivers take note. Impressive guitar for it's roots and price ;ching-a-ling. ... show more

Color: Fluorescent Green
My second Leo Jaymz guitar. Good quality and good sound. A very good guitar for the price. Set up was good out of the box. I just changed strings to my favorite DR brand.

  • You're going to love this guitar!
Color: Black
Absolutely flawless! This black beauty tuned up perfectly and the intonation was spot on. Fretwork seems very smooth, maybe a very minor rough edge on a couple, but I have the tools to smooth them out if I wish. Neck is straight with no apparent bowing. Tuners seem smooth as glass, but will give them time to aclimate to the strings to see if they stay in tune. The strings are common type, seem to play well, but of course I will change them to Ernie Ball Slinky's down the road. Fretboard looks just like rosewood, but i am no expert to determine if it is a composite or not. The nut looks like bone, but if it is not, they sure did a good job aging the plastic to look like it. Over all, it is a beautiful guitar to look at and I am extremely happy with it. ... show more

  • Unplayable out of the box, adjustments NEEDED - but good after that
Color: Green Flame
I got this guitar after coming across good reviews and having desired a SG style guitar for years. The last time I bought a guitar was around 2007, and supposedly with all the improved manufacturing tech and such there's great guitars for not much cost these days. I can't comment on too many aspects of this model because it's basically been unplayable since it arrived. The action on the one I received is very low and the higher 3 strings hit the 5th fret even when played open. We had some extra cold and wet weather when it showed up and I gave it a couple days to "acclimate" which made no difference. I also can't tune it very well because of the issue. I got busy with other things for a couple weeks and today decided I needed to check it again and try to tweak it. I adjusted the truss rod a little and raised the bridge some which helped but didn't eliminate the problem and resulted borderline too-high action from the 12th fret up. There's a slight back bow curve that can be seen when looking straight down the fingerboard on the high E string side, and of course, the curve is most most extreme around the 5th fret where the issues are. I'm far from an expert on setting up guitars. I know a bit but don't want to overdo it, especially adjusting the truss rod. I wonder if the nut is perhaps cut a bit too deep on the treble string side (it kinda of looks like it) or a combination of multiple things. Basically, I'm trying to determine if the guitar is too wonky to be worth keeping. It arrived unplayable and still is even after minor adjustments. The fret ends are a bit sharp and what I'd expect for a guitar this price. Obviously some parts are not the highest quality as expected for the price. If I end up keeping it I'll deal with replacing tuners, pickups, etc., later, which was the expected plan anyway. But It's hard to give a good review, much less a thorough one when it can't even be played. Just wanted to share my experience. I went to the Leo website to see if there was useful info, and while there is a lot of info, nothing I came across helped much. I'll try a couple other minor tweaks and maybe shim the nut slots a bit just to see how much that helps. It seems like too much to deal with just to be able to start to play it. UPDATE: I like this guitar. I would have expected (and preferred) it to come with high action, rather than too low of action. After watching some videos I felt more confident in fiddleing with it and got it playable. It sounds nice and I like it so I adjusted from 2 stars to 3. ... show more

  • Great Guitar
Color: Navy Blue
This is an unbelievably great guitar for the price! Very playable right out of the box. Hardly any fret sprout. Bridge was fairly intonated. Nut is well cut, and amazingly, has no sharp edges! I almost never see that, at any price. The Alnico V pickups sound legit. The neck is comfortable. The action is not terrible. Very playable. With a few small adjustments, a little bit of fret polishing and just a tiny bit of fret end filing, this guitar will be far better than a lot of instruments that cost many times more! If you're thinking about getting one of these guitars, do not hesitate. I don't think you can find better quality at this price and even at a lot higher price, in many cases! ... show more
