I live on the corner of two well lit streets, with a street lamp across the street on both sides of the house. Even in the middle of the night it is bright as day in my house, particularly the living room. I was using vinyl window covers and it was effective enough, but unattractive and hard to trim just right, so there were lots of little cracks of light around the edges. But it was cheap compared to the expensive single panels of light-blocking curtains sold at all the nearby big box stores that are a single layer of fabric with that weird backing that starts to turn rubbery and flake off after too much sun exposure. I decided to buy these curtains after much searching based on reviews, how nice they looked, and the fact that you get two panels for as much as I'd spend on one if I'd gotten them elsewhere. I figured if they didn't actually work as well as I hoped, at least they're inexpensive. They have surpassed my expectations in every way. They look absolutely gorgeous in person, and at night they keep everything pitch black. Even during the day, if the curtains are drawn the living room is very dim, dark enough to sleep in. Will definitely be buying more of these for all the rooms in my house. The photos were taken when the sky outside is at it's darkest, and every house light is off except the kitchen sink light so you can see how well they block out unwanted light. I included the 'night sight' photos since they're a bit closer to what the eye actually picks up with the sink light on, while the normal camera mode looks like what you'd see when there are no lights on inside and your eyes have adjusted to the dark. ... show more

It came with a small hole, so I had to stitch it up, fortunately it's to the bottom of the panel. Other than that, it looks good, darkens the room as expected. I would have preferred to have bought it with the silver grommets, but that was my choosing.

I don't think there are perfect blackout curtains in this price range. But. I truly like these. They are nice material, medium weight. Very soft to the touch. I was worried that they would weigh too much, and bend the old-school curtain rods I am using. They have not. At night, my room is now absolutely black--I have shades on the windows as well. What I am delighted about is that they keep out the bright light of morning. Yes, the light is apparent, but nowhere near what it used to be. And, they are glorious on any weekend afternoon if I want to indulge in a nap. No more big rays of sunlight at the left and right ends of the shades. Very good curtains! They effectively block out about 95% of light from my window, and even work well on my skylight. On top of this they also work well to thermally insulate my room, keeping it warm in winter and keeping the cool in during summer, and as a added bonus they are durable enough that they dont rip when my cat scratches them.
