After we upgraded to a 50" Bravia TV in our home we needed a new piece of furniture, and we looked at about 15 other items before selecting this "TV Stand." It's more than a standard stand, and we love it. Here's why: 1. It's made out of wood, not fiberboard with a veneer that can warp. 2. It's a warm color that blends with our decor. 3. It's easy to set up. The hardest part is opening the box. Once I did that and verified that I had all the parts, I followed the advice in the instructions and waited for my sweetheart to assemble it. The main part of the cabinet opens up like an accordion and then other parts slide into place. A perfectly-sized Allen wrench is provided for tightening the parts that bolt the top to the frame of the unit. Everything else is done with a standard Phillips screwdriver. 4. The assembly instructions are well written and illustrated. The parts are clearly marked. 5. The slots in the unit allow us to put wires inside the unit, instead of cluttering up the outside. 6. The unit arrived without any visible mars or marks. 7. Some units have a finished side and a rough side for their shelves. All of the sides of the shelves are finished, so they can be inserted in any way desired. 8. It looks great in our home. To recap: high quality, good color, the right size for our TV, looks great, and will probably last for a decade or more. It did take us about two hours to install, but about an hour of that time was deciding where we were going to store the cable/satellite box, DVR, laptop computers, and other items. ... show more

I had this item in my cart for a long time - a couple of years - before I finally bought it. I was really nervous about buying such a huge piece of furniture online because returning it would be a nightmare. I need not have worried. It's a beautiful, carefully designed, sturdy piece of furniture. Key points: Packing: Excellent. You can tell that someone put real thought into the packing - it was very well designed. Inside the box the corners were reinforced. There were lots of cardboard and styrofoam sections strategically placed so that the pieces of the stand don't move around inside the box, the pieces were individually wrapped in a soft cushioned foam wrap to avoid scratches, and the glass was well-protected. I was impressed that something so large arrived in perfect condition. Even the stickers are well-designed - they peel off easily and leave no residue. You do have a lot of cardboard and foam to dispose of afterwards. Assembly: Very easy for such a large item. It took my husband just over 30 minutes and he was being careful. The main body just unfolds and the big pieces just slide into place. Then you just bolt on the top, insert the shelf supports, and screw on the door handles. All hardware was provided. But it's heavy: unless you are quite strong, you should get a second person to lift the main section out of the box. And I recommend two people to move the completed stand into place. Fit & Finish/Quality: The only two very minor flaws in ours are (1) The back of the cabinet was slightly concave. I had to apply pressure to one end of the back to get the holes to line up while my husband bolted on the top. After that, it was fine. (2) The left and right cabinet doors are stiff; they work, but I do hope they loosen with use. As noted, this piece has NO particle board. It's solid and heavy. Even the back is a thin piece of wood (maybe plywood - it's hard to tell under the dark finish). But it's definitely not the usual cardboard that manufacturers stick on the backs of TV stands. Handles are metal, and finished nicely. The wood finish has depth and a nice luster. I have seen pieces in furniture stores that cost twice as much and didn't look as nice. Glass Doors and Remote Control Use: Yes, remotes work fine through the glass! Color: Mine is near the darker end of the pictures on the reviews. In dim light it looks very dark brown. But in sunlight or other bright lighting the lovely red tones come out. So I am very happy (and very relieved) that this has worked out so well. I have to say that I was very impressed and beyond my expectations with the quality of this TV console by Leick. The care in the packaging of the unit was considerable, and it took me nearly as long to unpack the unit as it did in the actual set up. What impressed me initially was the engineering going from the box into the setup process. Once I had digested the setup instructions, which were very easy to follow, the whole piece came together quickly. The packaging will create some trash bin cardboard waste, which can be cut up, but the styrofoam is a bit less easy to dispose of, and it would be great if they could come up with an alternative material. In terms of the actual look, the construction and finish of each individual panel was flawless, seriously. I was sure that I was going to expose some flaw or blemish, or ill fitting piece, but that was simply not the case. The color is beautiful and almost perfectly matches a nearby fireplace mantle that we had custom made. The care in the hand applied finish was evident, and I could not detect any runs or globs that sometimes happens in mass production runs. I would like to add that I had contacted Leick USA headquarters directly to ask their opinion as to the color of various units, and their suggestions as to which color would best match our existing furniture. After sending them pics of our furniture, they had narrowed it down for us to 3 or 4 possible best matches. It took them about a day to get back to me, and I really appreciate the time they spent with a "picky" customer!
