  • Fun
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
I mean, it's a Lego game. If you like those, you'll probably like this one, too. We enjoy them because a) they're just fun and b) the entire family can play them regardless of age. Quality time is quality time even when you're laughing at your kids' character falling off a platform.

  • May the Lego Be With You
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
Similar to other Star Wars Lego Games, but with a twist. This time there are third person cover shooter segments, but very streamline for younger audiences as there's a very lenient auto aim, except in certain instances where you have to shoot key targets' weak point for massive damage. There's also air dog fights (similar to Star Fox) with auto aim enabled at all times. Aside from the two new modes, you also have your traditional over-the-top-view open world/level combat and puzzles mixed in. There's nice pacing the first few chapters, but during chapter 6 or 7 there's a long slog of puzzle segments. The puzzles are not that hard, but tedious when you do them in series (room after room). Each character have their own abilities like Ray can parkour, BB8 can hack terminals, chewbacca can move heavy objects, etc and you have to integrate their abilities together with the environment to get to the next area Like other Lego games, it is catered towards younger audiences. But older gamers may enjoy the story, characters and collecting aspect also. The combat as mentioned is very easy with no game over screen, as your character instantly re-spawn upon depleting their health; losing some lego bits in the process. This lego bits are collected throughout the game and are used to purchase characters and vehicles. None of which is required to complete the main game. Collectors and completionists on the other hand may want to get as much lego bits as they can as it's the main currency in the game for unlockables. If you're an achievement hunter, a platinum PSN trophy is easy to obtain, but it's a huge time commitment Game is very kid friendly, but i can see some puzzle segments where they need help. If your kid is impatient, they may get frustrated and stop around chapter 6,7. Story is the same plot as the film with some filler segments to extend the play time, such as witty banter between characters, characters making random comic mischief in the background and foreground, or having to puzzle solving segments to get to the next area/room. The game starts off in the ending of Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi with the Battle of Endor which threw me off a bit, guess the puzzles wasn't enough to extend the length of the main campaign...or they decided just to add it as a prologue. There is DLC or season pass, but I have not played or purchased it myself so not able to comment on the specifics. From the titles of each dlc it seems that they'll be following the canon short novels/comics that was released along side the film Replay value is very high as all levels have hidden areas where specific characters can open, which is only obtained by reaching a certain level in the game and collecting certain amounts of lego bits. There is a metroidvania type vibe as you see a blocked door in each level with a character icon jotting out from it, teasing you to remember to go back later. Overall, very fun lego game and love the comic mischief the lego characters and props bring out. Just watch out for the long series of puzzle challenges towards the middle that drags down the pacing a bit (unless you're into that) ... show more

  • A fun, but familiar, romp through the galaxy
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
LEGO games haven't grown all that much over the years, adding small features or changes along the way (depending on what team worked on it). Ultimately, I found this entry fairly enjoyable as far as LEGO games go (and even as Star Wars games go, as of late), but there is always room for improvement. As with previous entries, LEGO Star Wars TFA follows the films story to set up the levels while taking creative freedoms when it comes to level design, missions, and character interaction. It makes for a refreshing take on The Force Awakens to hear the lines from the latest film (and, briefly, Return of the Jedi) taken in a new context with characters overacting, being goofy, and much more lighthearted than normal. It retains the charm of the LEGO name and stays true to the Star Wars universe (and the fan in all of us). The gameplay is still largely the same, with mashy combat, fairly simple puzzles (often requiring character switching), and a variety of set pieces to traverse. The biggest change is the inclusion of cover shooting sequences that turn the game into a mini shooting gallery to focus on scene on an encounter more. Largely it works, although sometimes it felt a bit gratuitous. Where things get funky is with how well the game runs and functions. With innumerable characters and vehicles to unlock, the free play list becomes a giant mess, and the dev team has yet to find a better solution other than a ton of similar-looking portraits occupying the entire screen. In at least one previous LEGO game, whenever you encountered an object that your current character could not interact with, players could quick-swap to whomever would fit the bill. If this feature is back with another command prompt, I can't say, but it was a vital tool to keep the game moving along. With a glut of classic Star Wars characters and ships, it is a hard task to manage or even get around to using half (let alone all) of the characters you'll unlock. However, gameplay stability is the big problem that hurts this game the most. Across ~30 hours of playtime, the game crashed 23 times. Hopefully they'll get around to fixing that because it really broke up the experience. LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens remains the same kind of game you've come to expect from the series. There are a lot of small jokes, and secrets to find, and while there isn't' a ton of depth to behold, it will easily consume your time and leave you with at least a smirk on your face. ... show more

  • My kid loves this game....
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
My 6yr old is great at solving puzzles and problems, and is now playing games whenever he can. So I decided to Segway into the LEGO series. Great for problem solving while also playing a video game. If you are a parent who is stuck trying to do no video games, and realize this is a losing battle (due to friends, older cousins, etc), I find this a good compromise. Game is cute, and follows the actual movie for Star Wars fans. ... show more

  • Wonderful game with nice graphics
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
I am a huge Star Wars fan and have loved previous Lego video games. So, I had to pre order this game. I have played about 20% of the game so far and I am really enjoying it. The graphics look fantastic for a Lego game. I love that you can now use the same pile of bricks to create different items. This is a nice change from previous games. The game also gives you a better look at Star Wars The Force awakens with more backstory and a closer look at different places such as Maz's castle. I will update this once I finish the game. ... show more
