This is an amazing kit! My son and I bought it for a friend with a typewriter collection and she FLIPPED over it! The construction is complicated, but the directions are well detailed, just like any Lego project, and quite simple if you go slowly. It is extremely cleverly designed. It does NOT actually type - but when you press the keys, the carriage moves and it give a satisfactory typewriter thump. The whole time, I was just fascinated by every step. How did anybody even figure out how to do this? It's an amazing build. HIGHLY recommend!! There is one thing that I should clarify… Yes it "works" inasmuch as a Lego set can work, and it sounds just like a typewriter – just amazing – BUT, there is only one arm (the center one) that functions in that way. This was possibly one of the greatest gifts I have ever received. It was extremely fun to put together, play with, interact with, and have as a decoration in the house. I have several of the Lego sets and this is the first one I have been dissatisfied with. The bricks don’t lock as well as the other Lego sets I have and wasn’t any less expensive. Maybe they rushed it to market. For the price they charge, quality should be much better.
