  • Playful Lego fun
Format: Hardcover
This book is very cool and is packed full of ideas for my little Lego maniacs. The build instructions are a little sparse and rely on being able to identify what has happened between steps - this is fine for my 11 year old who really "gets" Lego builds, but kind of tricky for my 8 year old who really needs to follow the directions. The 8 year old still loves just flipping through the book and seeing what other people have done. The minifigures say cute little quips and it's just a fun, joyful Lego experience. Most of the builds in the book require a lot of specialty pieces; we have thousands of dollars worth of Lego between my husband's childhood sets, my childhood sets, and those that my children have gotten. Even with that, we still can't build a good bit of the stuff in here. Luckily, my 11 year old sees it as a challenge and tries to modify and my 8 year old treats this like a coffee table book and just admires it, but I could see this being frustrating. ... show more

  • Fun little gift for a lego enthusiast with too many 'random' pieces
Format: Hardcover
TL/DR: Fun little gift for a lego enthusiast with too many 'random' pieces Pros: o Lots of designs o Breaks designs down in different 'skill levels' Cons: o Not quite as thorough as lego instructions I am far from a Lego connoisseur but I've put my fair share of sets together and our household has lot of extra lego pieces that'd be perfect for this book. It's large, has lots of fun designs, and the instructions, while on the 'light' side, are fairly explanatory IF you're good with Legos. I'd say this isn't so much a book for beginners (even though there is a 'beginner' level) as for people who are comfortable putting sets together and want to think a bit outside the box with a nudge. -------- I'm honored to be included in the Amazon Vine program, and I work really hard to make these reviews and videos helpful. I put in a lot of effort to try to help you learn the most important facts about the product. Good luck with your decision, and if you do decide to buy the product, I hope the things you find in this review make it easier to use. ... show more

  • A great book for LEGO fans!
Format: Hardcover
I bought this book for my nephews, and I am sure they will love it. Browsing thru the book, I would call this a guide to all the possibilities LEGO has to offer. Keep in mind many of the builds in the book require special pieces and while I have vast collection of pieces I don't have all of them. If you were planning to use this book as a set of instructions, you might be a little disappointed as the plans in the book are not as detailed as the plans you get in a build kit. This book is an insightful journey into LEGO and all the possibilities. As a LEGO enthusiast I appreciate the details and pictures shown thru the book. I've also learned some new construction methods! This is a wonderful resource for any LEGO collector. ... show more

  • Very high quality book
Format: Hardcover
It is very apparent that a lot of effort went into making this book. There are a lot of LEGO designs to choose from and the pages all have vivid color images of the build process. The main issue with the book is that all of the designs are too detailed and require very specific LEGO pieces in order to build. My children have several hundreds of dollars worth (if not possibly in the thousands of dollars) of LEGO in numerous bins but even with all those LEGO pieces I don't believe we can build any of the designs depicted in the book. Some of the designs make it so that substitutions of pieces is impractical since they are uncommon blocks. Even if you were to have all of the pieces of a particular build listed in the book (or at least suitable substitutes) then keep in mind that the build instructions are not as detailed as they typically are when buying a specific LEGO kit. I would say the build steps are about 4 or 5 times less detailed (i.e. 4-5 typical steps are skipped) from one step to the next. The idea of the book is nice, however from a practical standpoint I don't think most people will be able to make any of the included designs. At least it gives some examples to get inspiration from and the book itself makes for a nice tabletop read in the game room. I don't foresee us getting too much use from the book. ... show more
