This is such a cute book and a great idea for families. The pages have plenty of space to write it even has places to attach pictures on some of the pages and also includes a family tree in it. It’s a great way for children to learn about their family and past generations and experiences. The media could not be loaded. Trust me when I say I scoured various websites, comparing pros and cons, purchased and returned at least a half a dozen of these life story books before finally deciding that this is the one I want to give to my mom. (I also got the dad version) For me it came down to the variety of questions that are non-repetitive, just the right amount of space for writing thoughts, empty pages for free writing and notes to loved ones, family tree, basic information, short answer questions, favorites, to thought provoking prompts, and paper quality. There are also no places for attaching photos, which I like because I can see my mom getting frustrated about having to dig through albums and old photo envelopes to find them...that's what photo albums are for. I prefer that this is strictly for writing. The pages aren't thin, your average book paper. It doesn't look as though writing from the other side will show through. The cover is warped, as shown in my photo but it's not a deal breaker for me. I'm not crazy about the feel of the cover either, it's more of a waxy matte than a silky smooth matte. Again though, what's inside is exactly what I was looking for, so I'm willing to overlook that. The inside, like the cover, is very plain and simple. Would have liked more of an interesting design and graphics. However, something about this one just spoke to me and the others don't compare. My mom has been struggling with getting older and feeling the mental and physical effects of it, (she's 75 and hasn't been the same since she broke her hip over a year ago) so I think this will be a wonderful way to lift her spirits and get her mind on things that bring back memories. It will give her something to do that feels meaningful 😊 ... show more

I bought this for my 80 year old mother with dementia. It can be intimidating for one who has not had to be honest with their past before. Still, It will be a good project to help her mind/brain/memory skills. The leading questions make it very helpful v. a notebook or normal journal. I'm going to buy one for her husband who has Alzheimer's & memory issues; the two of them can choose a time to do this together for their two only surviving 50 + y/o daughters; myself and my step-sister. It's a great gift for anyone but especially a senior or elderly person. The material of the paperback is a soft mat finish and lovely pale pink. It gives the book a more expensive look than it was. It's large but not heavy. Easy pages stay open for my 59 y/o arthritic hands. And the lined pages for writing helps even a shaky Parkinson's hand. I'm very happy with it! I bought one for my own father as well, the sage green is also lovely, not too masculine. (Update: dad received his, it's a project he'll do but apparently he has some well kept secrets, and the leading questions make him go to a place mentally he wasn't prepared to go). Its challenging for him, but he's doing it. It's a great choice for birthday, Christmas, or anytime gift all the way around! A keepsake I will enjoy and hand down to my 35-y/o daughter, and she will hand down to her 5-y/o daughter, in time. (Their great grand-daughter).
