This is the second Harry Potter set I've built recently, and unlike that set, this set is a pure win. Why? Pros: - This set looks to be a vast improvement over the older Monster Book model (30628). The 50% increase in piece count adds a TON of detail over the old set along with a fun gimmick. - "Chomping" Action. Very neat to incorporate the pull back motor and chomping action. Lots of fun. (You can also run the pullback motor without the chomping and the set will go a lot further.) - Fun build. Typical Lego build. Easy to follow instructions with very few difficult to balance steps. - Hidden color. Incorporated into the build is the typical "hidden bursts of color" that lots of sets employ to keep the build from feeling drab. - Great looking final model. Tons of details makes for a great toy and/or display piece. - Includes Neville Longbottom minifig, (which to me makes a lot more sense than the Draco Malfoy minifig that was included in the set.) Cons: - I really don't have any. In summary, this is a great set and recommended on its own or as an upgrade to the old 30628 Monster Book set. Lots of fun. ... show more

I don’t feel this set was worth the money. It’s very cool and neat but it’s not what I expected. It Was a really quick build too. For 60+ bucks I’d hope for a more time consuming build.

This is a grand set, not too big but also not too small, that took a couple of nights to put together, so about 4-5 hours total build time. It's very nicely detailed with a few easter eggs, as you'd expect, though it's definitely not for playing with or for little kids - this is a display piece only. No tricky bits were encountered during assembly, and... I mean, it's Lego. What do you expect but quality and awesomeness in exchange for it costing a little bit too much. The media could not be loaded. Received this LEGO build of the Monster Book from the Harry Potter series and really enjoyed putting it together. Although it was a relatively quick build, it was still a lot of fun. My husband and I completed it together in just a couple of hours. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. We occasionally mixed up the dark brown and light brown pieces, but it wasn’t an issue. As expected from LEGO, all pieces were included and fit together perfectly. One of the highlights was the wind-up motor — a clever feature that makes the book scurry across the floor while the top cover snap open and closed. It adds a playful, interactive touch that really brings the set to life. My only comment is that the Neville Longbottom minifigure doesn’t come with a stand, and since he’s holding the mini version of the book in one hand, he’s a bit prone to tipping over. Reasonable price for a LEGO brand build. Overall, a delightful build for any Harry Potter or LEGO fan! ... show more

This Harry Potter build set is one of those where is more about the novelty than the build itself. It’s Lego, so you will get their normal high quality when it comes to pieces, how it assembles/stays together and it’s clear instructions. It’s a smaller set for the price point, but that goes back to the novelty aspect of it. While you always pay a little more for a franchised themed set, this one has moving parts so a lot of the build goes into supporting that and making it able to “chomp”.
