Heats pretty fast and is easy to set up. Was casting 500 grain slugs in no time with the Lee 575 Minnie single cavity mold which also is a winner in my opinion.

Works great for pouring lead. I use it for a variety of hilts and do-it molds. I can melt and pour a full 20lb pot of lead in about 40-60 minutes depending on the molds etc. I notice it has a hard time pouring sinkers 8oz and above. It’ll work for larger sinkers, but maybe 1 in 5 have a defect because the pot can’t pour fast enough. That’s just a limitation of bottom pouring pots, not just this specific one. After melting lead in a pot and hand ladleing for years this pot make pouring lead so so easy. Heats quickly. Great product. Arrived fast

    • Great for Pewter
I use this for lead free pewter, and it is great. Dross comes to the top, and clean pewter flows out the bottom. I reload, but don't cast. After using this melter, I can see it would be great for casting hundreds of rounds at a time. If I ever get the urge to cast, I'll buy a second one of these without hesitation. That way I don't contaminate my lead free pewter, and don't have to worry about adjusting heat or flow levels between materials. Also, I'm considering removing the base and mounting it to allow for larger molds to be used. If you are on the fence between this and a cheaper option, go for this. It really does a great job and allows for greater control of pouring metal than a ladle. ... show more

    • Quick and easy
Way better than hand pouring. Melts lead very quickly. In 30 minutes i had a nice pile of slugs. Only draw back is the unit never shuts off, even at lowest setting, so don't forget to unplug it after each use.

    • Let’s get melty
This unit is exceptionally good for my lead casting needs. It is easy for the heating elements to get a bit hotter than I’d like but this is easily combated by using a thermometer. The mold guide plate leaves a lot to be desired so I flipped mine upside down to give the mold more of a shelf to rest on as I cast. I would recommend this as an affordable bottom pour furnace to anybody into casting lead. ... show more
