I’ve actually owned a much more expensive ones and ones that were a lot cheaper, but lost all of that to a housefire. Picked up this one and actually I’m quite pleased with the features that it has and holding power. Works great. The vise is easy to assemble and despite what others have said, it works great for me. The non marking pads are a nice touch. The picture is a bit deceiving as it look like a lighter more plasticky device. It is very sturdy and look like it will past a long time. While this is definitely the best vise I could find on amazon and I consider it a good buy and usually buy higher end items there are some small issues which are mostly addressable. I read some negative complaints about it falling apart after light use. While they didn’t make it clear I suspect they are referring to the tightening knobs falling off when fully loosen. The knobs are attached with a metal screw and a metal nut, but they came so loose they all fell off. It was simply and permanently fixed by popping of the decorative covers and tightening them down. It was no big deal and if you can’t do this you shouldn’t be taking a weapon apart. The other more important issue which there is no solution for is the width of the opening in the jaws that support your weapon are not wide enough or just barely wide enough for several stock popular firearms. For example and M&P Smith and Wesson AR-15 with a stock quad pictanny rail on the foregrip with the hand guards installed does not fit and if you remove the rubber hand guards so your down to metal it still barely fits. Same issue with a Ruger Precision Rifle which is slimmer but still barely fits. I would say this isn’t ideal for tactical setups but still useable, just very very little margin. I am happy with it and couldn’t find anything better but another 3/4 of and inch or more would be well worth the little extra it would cost to produce. ... show more

I've had the Tipon "Best" Gun Vise for years - and it stunk. The cam clamps to hold the stocks were lousy at best; the height adjustment was clumsy and the plastic was crazy cheap feeling. This has the stability, flexibility, versatility and clamping strength that you've always wanted from a table vise. It feels like its a fiberglass composite material - very rigid. The oversized red knobs for tightening are very ergo friendly and comfortable. Some reviews talked about how the vertical adjustments wouldn't "stay" and they kept slipping back down - which I did encounter as well. Stumbled onto a YouTube video of a guy explaining you have to sand down the side walls of the vertical support because they're toe-nailed a bit - and once you sand them down to make them flatter, theres much more bearing surface for the pad to grip to hold the vertical support in place - and it really does!! I even used 60grit sand paper to keep it course to assist with the grip. Been very pleased with my hand-sanding mod. (Be sure to have a sanding block behind your paper to ensure you're sanding it perfectly FLAT!) Have got quite a few Tipton products around my bench - and I've loved all of them and have given me years of quality use. Except their "Best" Vise. This Ultra vise deserves its name - I can finally LOVE my vise. ... show more

Best gun vice for the money hands down. The thing is, this vice isn't even that much money compared to other gun vices on the market. I've wasted money on two previous vices and they were cheap plastic junk. This one has metal reinforced vices and everything is modular, movable, and interchangeable.
