This was a perfect gift for my wife. She is an aspiring foodie, who knows the big brands-- but also has arthritis, and knows she can't manage the Dutch ovens and such. This mug looks exactly like the cookware she has dreamed about, it has the coloring and raised lettering of the big guys and is only a little harder to manage than her previous mug. I think it's a little overpriced-- even for a 16-oz mug-- but it makes her the grandest tiger in the jungle in her office. And it satisfies a dream. I bought a set of four in the oyster shade “like new.” After making a detour to Kentucky before making it back to my state (courtesy of UPS), I got the package after a few days delay. Except for a slight chip on the lip of one of the mugs, the packaging held, and the rest of the mugs are intact. First, the positives - the mugs are on the heavier side, and the color is gorgeous. The interior of the mugs, at least in oyster, is golden tannish and works really well with the darker exterior shade. The ombré or color fade with “La Crueset” etched onto the cup makes the cups look expensive. The negative - the handle is Dumbo ear shaped and makes it harder to hold the cup with just one hand comfortably. For those who drink a lot from mugs can relate. In terms of insulation, they’re open-ended cups … the quality of the ceramic seems fairly high, but they don’t have magical abilities to keep the liquid warmer than other similar open-ended ceramic cups. Overall, I really like these mugs - in today’s age, delight for the cost of over-priced coffee mugs is increasingly hard to come by, so enjoy! They’re very pretty, well-made mugs. ... show more

Holds heat very well, while keeping the handle cool enough. Glaze is thick and almost flawless; also easy to clean. Coffee and tea stains wash off. It does have a bit of heft to it, but not overly so for me. It's stable and doesn't feel like it wants to tip in this shape; bottom heavy.

Kind of an extravagant purchase but I figure for something I use everyday why not have the best. I do love these mugs not only for their capacity but for the way they look and the way the edge flares out at the perfect angle to sip your coffee.
