Classic shape, quality material and it's long enough that if you have a half inch left of a stick of butter you can still put another one in the dish end to end. This way you don't have to wait until you completely finish the butter before adding more to the dish.

The butter dish came quickly, and I am very pleased with my new purchase. I bought the Le Creuset Butter dish as I wanted a pop of color and as expected, from Le Creuset, the dish Is not only beautiful but is very well made and fits a stick of butter perfectly. I'm frugal and a little bit of a clean freak. For decades I've always opted for the cheap plastic butter dishes, figuring when they crack I'll just buy a new one. Further I was always bugged by how messy my butter and butter dishes got after just a few uses. I LOVE Le Creuset pots and pans (even cooking temps, stovetop to oven, so easy to clean, etc.) and stumbled upon this butter dish a while ago. Finally when my last plastic butter dish cracked, I treated myself to this dish. It's now one of my favorite things in my kitchen. Beyond looking beautiful, all the edges are rounded, allowing for an easy wipe to thoroughly clear a schmear of butter when it catches on the tray or lid. I was also a little concerned that lid would not fully seal at the bottom (I don't refrigerate my butter once unwrapped) or chip because it is ceramic. After almost a year of heavy use there has not been a single chip and the seal on the lid is uniformly perfect. In the 10+ months I've had this, I would have gone through maybe 2 plastic butter dishes. This dish satisfies the neat freak in me, looks beautiful and will likely prove to be more cost effective than the plastic trays. ... show more

Love the Le Creuset quality, but the biggest thing that separates this butter dish from two others we've had from Le Creuset is the shape of the handle. The others were shaped like doorknobs, very narrow at the neck. And sure enough, that's where both ultimately broke. This butter dish has a half-loop handle, so even thickness and two connection points into the dish lid. Easy to grasp, and much more sturdy.
