Description

Before refrigeration, butter stayed fresh when immersed in water. The stoneware butter crock from Le Creuset uses that same principle, keeping your butter spreadable at room temperature. To use, pack the cup on the underside of the lid with six ounces (about 1-1/2 sticks) of butter. Fill the crock one- third of the way up with cold water. Invert the lid/cup into the water and an air-tight seal is created. When you're ready to spread, open the lid and set it on its wide, flat knob. Change the water every few days for best results.

  • Butter makes it worth
Color: Flame
This is a beautiful piece. Love the color, no imperfections. I really like having soft butter at all times as well. It takes just a little water to create the seal.

  • Perfect Addition
Color: Shell Pink
I love this butter crock - it works well, my butter is so soft and spreadable every time. The crock looks good on my counter and it matches my other decor. I change the water every two-three days as recommended and have not had any problems with it. The lid stays closed and the water keeps it’s seal well. ... show more

  • Instructions for Successfully using the Butter Crock
Color: Cerise
Great Crock! 1. always fill with exactly 1/4 cup of water. NO MORE, NO LESS. 2. Change the water every 3 or 4 days without fail. 3. fill with exactly 1 stick of butter. 4. soften butter on counter before putting in Crock. 5. press butter in Crock small amount at a time, being sure to press tightly against sides leaving no air pockets. 6. Tap water is fine in my area. 7. Make sure butter is smooth on top and will not contact the water. If you do all this butter will last a very long time. ... show more

  • Fresh, spreadable butter!!
Color: Cerise
A butter bell keeps butter fresh and easy to spread so you can keep it on the counter. I used to use a regular butter dish and often the butter would turn a weird texture. This is so much better and the crock is small and attractive to keep on the counter.

  • No longer am I a cave-man; I have safe, soft butter!
Color: Cerise
I have seen the light! No longer am I a caveman, messily smashing a cold, lifeless stick of butter on my toast and potatoes! Here's what I like: Pros: 1.) Sturdy, cool ceramic design ensures there is a hard, loving shell wrapped around my precious butter wand. 2.) Small cup with room for cool water makes an air tight seal around the butter, making a moat of sorts to defend the butter castle! 3.) Not made in China, so there's no real worry about lead based paint. 4.) WIDE base on top of the bell makes a nice, sturdy stand when extracting the delicious butter. 5.) Bell is large enough to hold one full stick of butter realistically. You could smash a bit more in there but you run the risk of wet butter and a bit of a mess! 6.) Butter last's much longer than expected! I've left my butter in that crock for about two weeks before I finished it (changing the water out every 2 to 3 days) and it was perfectly safe and tasty! Tastes just like day one! Cons: 1.) I just wish it was a LITTLE bit bigger. I have had zero problems with this butter crock! This is a top notch butter crock and if you're tired of using "tub butter" or if you've been eating...margarine...make the investment in not only your health, but saving money over time on butter! I figure that I can either buy a small tub of butter which is around $4.00 around my area, or I can buy an equal amount of stick butter for around $2.00 and over time, the money I save on butter will surpass the amount I've spent on this bell crock. If you've read this far, just buy the crock already, you won't regret this one! ... show more

  • questionable design...disappointed
Color: Cerise
Review by Ed's wife: I ordered this item in red, splurging, because we love our Le Creuset oval casserole, and had misplaced half of the simple 9 buck butter keeper found at Capital Iron in Victoria BC some years ago. However, we are mystified and dismayed by the poor design of this Le Creuset item - the sides of the upper part, which holds the butter upside down in the water, or, rather is supposed to, do not taper. As a result, the butter, when upside down, falls into the water. At least, that's what happens in our house, even if we pack it tightly, refrigerate it for awhile, and then put it back on the counter. The 9 buck job has a rounded and tapered throat which holds the soft butter in. We've converted this fairly expensive Le Creuset item to a canister for rubber bands or tea bags, or whatever and, happily, found the missing half of the old one, which is back on the job, harboring a supply of soft butter for morning toast....without taking a swim in the water. ... show more

  • If you love LeCreuset, otherwise expensive
Color: Shell Pink
It is handsome on the counter and performs as described in Consumer Reports. It can be washed in the dishwasher. Keeps butter spreadable. I like it but other models might have worked as well.
