Description

Decorative yet functional, this stoneware butter dish can go from refrigerator to microwave to table. The European style is designed to hold two sticks of butter. Before refrigeration, butter stayed fresh when immersed in water. The stoneware butter crock from Le Creuset uses that same principle, keeping your butter spreadable at room temperature. To use, pack the cup on the underside of the lid with six ounces (about 1-1/2 sticks) of butter. Fill the crock one-third of the way up with cold water. Invert the lid/cup into the water and an air-tight seal is created. When you're ready to spread, open the lid and set it on its wide, flat knob. Change the water every few days for best results. Made in Thailand of high-fired stoneware with a non-porous enamel glaze, the butter crock won't absorb odors or flavors, resists staining and chipping, and is dishwasher-safe. A choice of colors embellishes the exterior of the jar and lid in a graded fashion, from dark to light. Le Creuset also makes kitchen canisters and spice jars in the same traditional French country style, in matching or coordinating colors. Each makes a great gift and is covered by a lifetime limited warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

  • Exactly the quality you expect, plus it's pretty
Color: White Style: Crock
Nice heavy duty buttercrock. Works exactly as expected and feels like it will be something that would last a lifetime. I really love having soft butter to use on my toast every morning.

  • It works. Just like it's supposed to.
Color: Cerise Style: Crock
It can hold a little over one stick of butter and keeps it protected from oxidation. The butter remains soft and spreads easily. No more torn up soft bread. This is my second one. After many years of use, the first one got dropped (by me) on the counter and the edge of the pot got a big chip in it. It is pretty durable, though. Just don't be a butterfingers. ... show more

  • Softened Butter Whenever I Want It
Color: Cerise Style: Crock
This butter holder is just a fun addition to our kitchen. It sits in front of our large Le Creuset flour, sugar, and salt holders in matching colors. Now the family is complete (we also have the bacon drippings pot next to the butter in the same color). They look awesome and makes me feel like a real chef in a professionally stocked kitchen. I highly recommend a little splurge purchase occasionally. ... show more

  • Great product.
Color: Cerise Style: Crock
This butter crock keeps fresh, soften butter on hand at all times. You put water in the bottom and butter in the bell. When the bell is placed in the crock the water forms a seal keeping the soften butter fresh and ready to spread at all times.

  • I've ordered it twice came broken twice.
Color: White Style: Crock
I ordered the first one and it came broken. Started a return and had a replacement sent. It also arrived broken. Both times it was just a box in a box. The product is porcelain and fragile. The Amazon Packers could not have care less . Now I have a Christmas present it's going to be late.

  • No longer am I a cave-man; I have safe, soft butter!
Color: Cerise Style: Crock
I have seen the light! No longer am I a caveman, messily smashing a cold, lifeless stick of butter on my toast and potatoes! Here's what I like: Pros: 1.) Sturdy, cool ceramic design ensures there is a hard, loving shell wrapped around my precious butter wand. 2.) Small cup with room for cool water makes an air tight seal around the butter, making a moat of sorts to defend the butter castle! 3.) Not made in China, so there's no real worry about lead based paint. 4.) WIDE base on top of the bell makes a nice, sturdy stand when extracting the delicious butter. 5.) Bell is large enough to hold one full stick of butter realistically. You could smash a bit more in there but you run the risk of wet butter and a bit of a mess! 6.) Butter last's much longer than expected! I've left my butter in that crock for about two weeks before I finished it (changing the water out every 2 to 3 days) and it was perfectly safe and tasty! Tastes just like day one! Cons: 1.) I just wish it was a LITTLE bit bigger. I have had zero problems with this butter crock! This is a top notch butter crock and if you're tired of using "tub butter" or if you've been eating...margarine...make the investment in not only your health, but saving money over time on butter! I figure that I can either buy a small tub of butter which is around $4.00 around my area, or I can buy an equal amount of stick butter for around $2.00 and over time, the money I save on butter will surpass the amount I've spent on this bell crock. If you've read this far, just buy the crock already, you won't regret this one! ... show more

  • KEEPS BUTTER SOFT AND MOLD FREE FOR WEEKS!
Color: Caribbean Style: Crock
I hate margarine. Butter just tastes SO good! But butter in the fridge stays hard, and then you destroy the bread or bagel you're preparing with hard clumps of butter. I never liked butter just sitting out in a covered dish, and it's the AIR that causes butter to go rotten. So this Creuset crock is very clever. First, you smash a cube of butter into the top half of the dish. (15 seconds in the microwave will soften up a hard cube of butter.) Believe me, the smashed butter will stick to the sides of the top; it wont' fall out when the top is upside down. Then you put about 1/2" of water into the bottom half. Then put the top half into the bottom half. The water in the bottom seals all of the air out and away from the butter, so it stays fresh for weeks (unless you contaminate it with food.) Overnight, the butter softens up to room temperature, so is spreads easily on toast, bread, bagels, etc. It ends up being SOFTER than margarine from the fridge. I'm no Top Chef. I just love butter. This butter crock is great if you want soft, long-lasting butter all the time. ... show more

  • Beautiful butter crock
Color: Marseille Style: Crock
It is so very pretty! I guess I expected a smaller size, so it is a pleasant surprise that it is as big as it is. Can't wait for it to get used. Comes very well cushioned to prevent breakage during shipping.
