My only wish is that these were stoneware like some of Le Creuset's other lines, instead of plastic body with a metal top. We have been looking for a salt and pepper shakers that match our decor and these fit perfectly. Good quality as can be expected from Le Creuset. It does not come with a base so I bought it separately. The base makes it superb that the set occupies a special spot on my kitchen countertop.

These look super cute and go with my turquoise Fiesta dishes well. Once you pick one up, the illusion is destroyed and you can feel its cheap, plastic exoskeleton. It grinds salt finely, and no one at my house cares that they are cheap as long as they look good. Actually no one at my house cares. Maybe I do. Thus this review. ... show more

First, I don't take reviewing a product lightly. I consider it a waste of time but will leave a review if exceptional either way - good or bad. This product - the Le Creuset Salt and Pepper Mill Set, 8" x 2 1/2", Black & White, is exceptionally bad. My bad - I looked at the video reviews for this product rather than read the review. I can now say there is not one honest, unbiased video review. All lies. First - these are molded ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic, with a (possibly) ceramic grinder mechanism. If you know plastics, ABS is a heavy, more durable plastic - but its still just plastic. They are heavy in the hand and look nice, but I wanted a functioning salt & pepper mill - these ain't that. Second, they are not adjustable by any conventional means. The fill lid at the top of the grinder is held in place by a cap nut with either a P or an S on it. Supposedly, tightening or loosening this nut is how you adjust the coarseness of the salt or pepper. Per the product description more info section "clockwise for a finer ground and counterclockwise for a coarser grind" There is no graded adjustment, just by feel. When it feels like the lid will come off in your hand - that's coarse. When you tighten the nut down and the thing nearly won't crank, that's fine. I added photos to show the difference, with one full/360 rotation. Almost no pepper at both extremes, tons of inconsistant salt. Last, they leak. There are no end or dust caps as shown in the videos. This used to be a good brand but for $75 US, these are garbage, and I'd be very wary of anything Le Creuset from now on. Returning today. ... show more
